Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

Here is mine - A little patina, primer, and newer paint all wrapped up into one. Just need a shop logo now. This is a neat thread for those who see the potential in any old pickup......

This is one of the sweetest most subtle sleepers I have every seen! You nailed it! What size wheels and tires are you running?

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

I've seen a few people asking what exactly "patina" is. Never associated it with trucks until now, but I do see what you guys are talking about. I always associated it with other old things like furniture.

Here's a definition from a collectible coin site:
A surface film found on coins (usually brown or green) caused by oxidation over a long period of time.

From a leather tanning site:
The aura or luster that develops in a quality piece of leather with age.

From a jewelry site:
The change in an object's surface resulting from natural aging due to wear and oxidation.

From an architecture site:
The natural finish on a wood or metal surface that results from age and polishing.

The best succinct definition I ran across:
the mellow, timeworn look of a surface

I suspect that for some of the older ones among us, our old trucks evoke nostalgia of times when things were more right with the world, when trucks were trucks, and first dates. Sometimes I get the urge to fire up John Cougar's "Jack and Diane" when I see a really nice old truck that fires up those feelings.

Additionally, this thread is an enjoyable read, looking at the diverse tongue-in-cheek creativity displayed in the different rides. Keep those pictures coming!

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

Can't remember if i have posted my truck in this thread before so here is a picture of it a few days after I painted it flat black. It used to be green and looked almost like the hot rod city truck with a little less patina but alot more rust holes. Unfortunately I cant find any pics I have taken in the past when it was painted like that. I am wanting to find someone that can paint the door with my business name but make it look like it was painted on there years ago. Just excuse me in the pictures I don't have any better ones right now.

thank you mayo, bought the truck for 1500 and a few days of hard work and thanks to some rustoleum paint, this is what I got. made the patina look out of black and dark green and then clear it, for protection, even the interior was painted with rustoleum red, and bought the roll of tan leather for 5 dollars at the turlock swap meet and the gauges on ebay all in all spend 2200.00 hundred, but now shes gone, sold her last month

Bought this a short while ago, but a buddy of mine stopped by for a look and wanted it so bad, his Dad had a truck just like it and he learned to drive in it, we tore up the neighbourhood many years ago, wants it for his boy, sooo had to help him out, already had a V8 with a 4spd manual.
