A few more...
These shots are where the weld seam used to be. The body shop finished the bottom side of the bed floor and the inside of the bedsides sides where the weld seam was without me even asking... wow!! The powder in the pics is bondo dust. |

Re: 1972 GMC Shorty Conversion
Sorry to ask a question that goes so far back in the thread - but what did you use as a "backer" for the grinding disks you used to grind down the welds on the bed?
Your work looks great! Thanks |

Re: 1972 GMC Shorty Conversion
What sprayed on product is on the underside of your bed and does it have to be painted after or is it a one shot and you are done?

Yeah... you missed it, but that's okay. I'm going to run factory rally wheels for now. I hope to upgrade later to some 18"/20" Billet Specialties wheels, but I'll need to sell my house first - lol. Here's a pics of my rally's after powder coat. Need to get some tires mounted up this weekend. |

Thanks for all the comments on my build, I sure do appreciate them. Chevy88, As for the underside of the bed, it's just plain jane black paint. Spray and go buddy. Miles |

Re: 1972 GMC Shorty Conversion
Hi all,
So I picked up a project truck from a guy up the street from me a few weeks ago. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet... most likely sell it / part it out. It's a 71 Chevy short bed (factory) with a 400 small block, tilt wheel, rally's, brand new Goodmark short fleet bed sides (side marker lights filled and sides blocked), new Goodmark front fenders (side marker lights also filled and blocked), nice tailgate, cherry hood with no sag, really nice inner/outer grill, front/rear crome bumpers, performer RPM intake, ceramic coated headers, nice bench seat and on and on. The truck has the usual rust in the cab. I'll let you know what happens with this one. All I can say is, I wish I had found this truck five months ago when I started my project. It sure would have made life easier. A few pics attached. Since I don't have new tires mounted on my rally's yet, I borrowed the rally's / tires off the project truck to see what my truck looked like on the ground. These are not the same size tires I plan on running, but close. I was curious how close the headers were to the ground... which, by the way, are way too close for my comfort. I'll need to shorten them, install stock manifolds or buy some shorty's for clearance. We'll see what works out. I did manage to get the fuel lines finished up. I started from the sending unit and worked forward. Some pics... thanks for looking. |

Re: 1972 GMC Shorty Conversion
Hey,
I've been following your build and your doing some awesome work. If you want a different header and are not looking for all out performance try some 3/4 length chevelle headers. I have a set from dynomax on my '78 and they fit great and keep the exhaust up off the ground. I got the idea from a build Sport Truck did in Nov 1999 on a '68 C10. The part number is 85118. This thread has more details: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...evelle+headers
