Re: Project "Captain Insano"

i had a bad nightmare last night when i was asleep. i dreamed i mounted up my brakes/rotors and i had the solid rotors. i was thinking, dang i wish i would've gotten the cross drilled/slotted ones. lol i felt relieved once i woke up, so it's all good. lol

Re: Project "Captain Insano"

i decided to mount the valve manifold on the rear cross beam. i welded a plate at an angle so the air lines can hook up fairly straight. tomorrow i should have the other bag and control arms mounted, and the wiring routed. need to get some line/wire mounting clips ordered.

thanks dan. it's getting more exciting now that it's looking like a real chassis. once i decided where to mount the valves, everything else is just falling right into place. i'll have some better photos in the daylight later on today.

thanks. i just need to run fuel and brake lines, then that should be close to it for the chassis.
i pulled the oil pan on the 350 i have, it's a 2 bolt main. i think i'm going to order a 4 bolt main block that's clearanced for a 383 from summit.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"

looks like my last set of photos didn't go up last night. i waited on it to make sure it wouldn't double post.

i just pack the bearings and then a small film on all other surfaces, there's not really any need to fill the entire rotor with grease. i like to clean out and repack the bearings every brake pad change.

when i tighten the castle nut, i tighten and back it off at the same time while i spin the rotor, about 3-4 times. at last, i tighten it, then back it off to the pin hole. usually a 1/8" - 1/4".

Re: Project "Captain Insano"

i got the brake lines finished up. i decided to go ahead and reuse my old ones. once i blasted them, they still look in pretty good shape. i replaced a couple sections though, i destroyed the rear one that curves around to the axle flex line when i was disassembling. i got some 16" stainless braided flex lines for the calipers from speedway motors and a new rear flex line.
the rear calipers are a 10m x 1.5 thread. i got a fitting that went from metric to 3an, then i flared on a 3an female on the old axle line.

i think now, i'm just going to take a break until i get a 383 block & stroker kit on order. i'll probably start the fuel lines once i get the engine mounted with an ez efi sytem. this may take 2-3 months. just depends on how many hours i want to keep working, i'm starting to get burned on the 50+ hr work weeks.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"

Thanks. Not yet, but I did do a whole lot of staring at it last night. lol I planned on getting an early start, so I set my alarm for 7am this morning but that didn't work.
Anyway, it's my wifes birthday this weekend. So between doing things with her and tinkering with the truck when I can, I should be able to at least get the templetes made out of card board. Hopefully tomorrow after church I'll be able to start cutting up some steel and possibly some welding too.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"

Thanks. That's Cash (short for Bocash). He's been a cool partner for the past 8 1/2 years. I had a friend when I was in the Navy '99-'03, his last name is Bocash. I told him he has a cool name, some day I'm going to get a boxer and name him that.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"

Thanks alot for the nice words guys. I really do feel fortunate to be able to do this at my age (32yrs), and I'm lucky that my wife knows doing this build means alot to me. I grew up wearing garage sale cloths and rarely getting any kind of toy. Since I was 14 yr, I would look through the Truckin and Lowerider mags and say I'm going to build the most bad a** truck someday.

Alright, lets get back to some trucks..............
