More on the storage compartment. I've added pieces to the ends to accomodate some speakers, and more drywall mud. Hoping to get some 6x9 speakers to fit, and the covers. I think I better go buy a set to make sure they will fit. I will have to add some pieces at the bottom on the outsides where the cab floor slopes down. Once the shape looks right and fits, lay the fibreglass and then start working on the lid, the bottom to the floor, and cut the speaker holes out.

Still messing with the storage compartment/ speaker boxes, had to make some changes. Pics coming soon. In the meantime I adjusted the hood, to get it to close nice, and install the latch, rubber piece, and lights. Underneath, I put rubber plugs in the holes that are in the braces. I'm not sure it shows here, I'm thinking now I should have welded them shut before they were painted.

More on the storage compartment/ speaker boxes. The shape I had the speaker boxes in the last pictures, hits the back of the seat when it is pushed back. The speakers are too wide to fit back there. I tried having the speakers sitting flat horizontal, and it was better, but would still contact the rear of the seat. I had to tilt them down some, and it gave good clearance, and hopefully sounds good facing that direction. The last two pics show the mold installed in the cab with the speaker grills sitting on top. The seat clears by plenty now. It still needs some more sanding and pieces added on the bottom corners before laying fibreglass. The centre section will have a lid that opens with a piano hinge along the rear. It will give some storage for a jack, wheel wrenches, and other stuff. A long way to go still, but a little more progress every day.

Continued on the storage compartment/ speaker boxes. Have added the lower pieces in the corners where the cab floor slopes down, got it all fairly smooth, and have put some mold release on. There is tin foil tape over the bottom opening. It will be trimmed more accurately for the contour of the floor. When the mold release dries I will start putting the mat and fibreglass on that I have all cut up in the last picture.

Continued on the box thing behind the seat. Got a fair amount of fibreglassing done, and test fitting it behind the seat.

I have cut the lid off in the first pic, and holding it there to show how it will open. In the next pic the holes have been cut out for the speakers, and some of the styrofoam in behind removed to clear. I think I will leave the rest of the styrofoam back there, maybe it will sound better. The last shows the speakers installed, and the inside of the storage compartment is empty. It need some work to mount the lid and have it hinge open. There are holes in the bottom of it where the rear cab mount bolts come through the cab floor.

The thing behind the seat is pretty much done. Still needs body work and paint. I built flanges around the inside edges, a small partition inside in the middle for strength, filled the backside of the door, and installed the piano hinge. Also used an old dash knob for the knob to open and close it.

The truck saw the light of day for the first time in months. I had to push it outside to do some work on my daughters car. Can't wait to get the box back and get it on the frame. The seats are out for some tweaking, more on that later. Not too much green around here, spring is late this year.

I've got the rad in, clutch fan, shroud, and hoses. At the front of the rad on top where the gap is between the rad support and rad, I used a piece of stainless braked 90 degrees, and then used the some rubber weatherstrip that the inner fenders to cab uses to seal to the top of the radiator. Still awaiting power steering pump and now I can measure and get some belts on there. Had to do a bit of adjusting to get the pulleys aligned.

Your project is great to follow! Spring is late out here, but hopefully that means a scorcher of a summer for cruising around. Will you be taking your truck to any of the shows this summer?

Probably not this year, there is a long ways to go. Lots of things to buy, I enjoy the work, but buying the parts is what holds me back. Just save my money and keep chipping away, until someday I can really enjoy it. In the meantime, I have a white 57 Belair that I take to local shows. I go to the Wednesday night thing at the Grey Eagle casino fairly often. Maybe see you there.

Got a little more accomplished, installed power steering pump and got all the belts on. The pump came from Tuff Stuff, nice piece, but 3 months to get here. Good thing it wasn't going anywhere. The box will be painted very soon, talked to the painter today. That will be exciting. A new oak box floor should arrive any day also. The thing needs some lovin, it has been on hold for a while.

Hope you are on high ground there. I didn't hear too much about flooding in Strathmore, so I'm guessing things are dry.

We got evac'd from downtown and I've been off work for over a week due to the floods.

Ever since I saw your air cleaner, I have been totally enamored with it, so when I was making an order from my latest LMC catalog, and I saw they were now offering it.....well I could not resist!

Should be here within the week !!

I just have to figure out how to make it as awesome looking as yours is

Well alrighty then .....
I got that air cleaner in, but I am going to have to mod my heater box for it to fit.
There is about a half inch conflict between the inboard side of the heater box, and the passenger side of the air cleaner.
Looks like I am going to have to shave the lip of the heater box to get the clearance I need.

Still got to find a way to make mine look as cool as yours though

Maybe you could build a spacer on top your carb that shifts the air cleaner to the drivers side a little, or cut the base of the air cleaner out where it sits on the carb and move it over from centre, and then reweld. Cutting away that heater housing would be a little harsh and probably not look that nice.

The smaller air cleaner sounds like the perfect fix. I didn't know there was a smaller version.

Got back at it today. I have mounted the tank switch on the outside of the frame, trying to keep the fuel lines away from the heat of the exhaust as much as possible. The exhaust will run inside the frame and through the holes I cut in the cross member. I still have to install the supply and return line from the switch to the other side. The second pic shows the holes in the frame I went through for the lines. They seemed like a convenient spot. Put rubber grommets around the holes, and ran the lines through the frame and up to the fuel pump. I can't seem to load the pics. I will try again later.

I have a whole lot of things happening right now, but can't upload the pictures. We have tried making them smaller and it still won't upload. When this thing gets corrected, I have quite a few pictures to post. I'll just have to be patient, there are a lot of others with the same problem.

Picture of the fuel tank switch. I will install a cartridge type fuel filter on the supply side soon. I tried to include the pic of the lines coming through the frame, but it wouldn't download the picture.
