Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

So I bought this truck back in 2017 as a Mom & Son project to force myself to spend more time with my newly retired mother. [that's a big lie] the truck was a total POS and her house was closer to the seller's place than my house, so I two wheel UHAUL car trailered it there instead ! but it's the thought that counts

we did wrench on it together and took a ton of pics which then I lost when my SSD failed literally as I was backing stuff up to the Google

Destination: Mom's House, where it all begin
Distance: 13 miles
Terrain: Streets (no freeway)

and here she is back where it all begin: (yup took mum around the block in this one, like I have done in all my prior builds)

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

It took me 2 weeks, but I finally read your whole build thread. Very impressive. That's a lot of research to figure all that out.

When I went to Votech for autobody in the early 90s there was a Toyota electric truck they had built that stayed in the shop. We had to move it in and out for more room. It was interesting. It was a lot less complicated than yours. I can't remember for sure, but I think it had a bunch of lead acid batteries in the bed. The motor under the hood wasn't very big and it didn't have any cooling. Seemed very simple.

yes the game has changed tremendously since then, the one huge difference is that back in the 90s, most likely that truck was powered by Direct Current aka DC electricity (low voltage (96v or less maybe) / high current) so there was no need for a box called an Inverter. This made setup very simple cause all you needed was a motor + batteries + a controller, then simply by giving it more or less volts using a potentiometer aka a fancy volume knob you made it go faster or slower. These days we use Alternating Current 3 phase motors. This allows us to run much thinner wires and push less amps at much higher speeds aka volts (360+).

I built an electric motorcycle using those types of DC motors and yes lead acid, well gel batteries, called a Suzuki "Wattana" it should be out there on the InterWebs somewhere

thank you I hear you, but keep in mind electric vehicles have a fraction of the amount of parts that gasoline vehicles have

if we were to take two 16 year old kids, say twins, and teach them how to drive and maintain a comparable ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and electric vehicle and after say two years have them switch, I wonder what they would tell us?

"What, you have to change the oil twice a year?"
"What's SMOG?"
"What's a tune up?"
"So you have to rev your engine to 5,000 RMP before it makes top horse power and torque, why?"
"What's that noise?"
"Why does the car shake so violently?"
"What do you mean you fuel up when you sleep?"
"What do you mean you can drive your car across the desert, where do you charge?" LoL

Engines vs Motors

The BMW S85 engine develops 507 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, and revs up to 9,000 RPM, making it the most powerful engine on their list.

The Tesla Model S/X Large Drive Unit (LDU) aka motor produces 636 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque and spins up to 15,000 RPM.

There are sources to get registered owner and address from the information (will not share). No way to prevent when driving around, but why post on the internet for more specific people to see?

what's the difference between driving around and being parked ?

because it is public information and what are the likes that some dude across the globe is going to pay for some subscription service to get my address, then fly out to my house and do what, help me take out the dents on the bed of my beater, lol ???

trust me I have tried to get the addresses of the hit and run accidents I was in and it's not as easily obtained from a license plate as you think, unless you are in law enforcement of some sort

the last screen shot below cracks me up, they are basically asking you to provide your personal information so that they can give you your personal information

Do not have to pay for the information. I can get it.

The key word here is "limited" in lower case. Lifetime Warranty, is to get your eyes away from the key word.

The McMurtry Speirling mini Batmobile is very impressive. I don't watch racing much, Formula 1 is not exactly leading with technology are they. Your local round town runs are getting more better.

Pretty easy to make it happen. Attach ground from side marker to the rear turn element. How it is done in the 71-72 trucks on front markers. If you use led bulbs in the rear turn/brake location doing this mod, side markers will not light at all. Have seen led bulbs cause frustration for a few 71-72 owners.

just showing that I do drive the truck daily, and love it beyond words, anyway a question for you all, and this is embarrassing cause I'm an IT Guy by day and a Forum Updater by night, yet I don't use technology for technologies sake, if you follow that logic, well my wife does this thing where she deposits paper checks into the bank on her phone and I just don't get that Wicket Witchcraft, do you do it also like that?
