Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

Guys, tell me will a GMC front (grill, headlamps) fit on a 70 C10 truck? I love the front of the GMC and I have never seen one in South Africa.

It's possible, but a lot of work. Besides the GMC grille, you need a GMC radiator wall w/ 4 headlight buckets, GMC fenders [or '68 Chevy fenders] and a GMC hood.
[When the Chevy line did the design change to the blunt nose hood body style, in the '69 Model Year, GMC kept on using some of the old style parts.]
Not to mention the tailgate. Or Right-Hand Drive.
Also some DMVs take a dim view of changing the "make" of a registered vehicle. But that's a political, not mechanical issue.
It might be cheaper to import a whole clean GMC to the "Other U-S-A."

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

My other truck is a '71 GMC Jimmy 4x4, 350 V8 | SM465 | NP205 | 3.73 Corp 12 Bolt rear w/ factory Eaton Posi | K/1500, [ like the Chevy K/5 Blazer, but GMC insisted on badge-ing them as K/1500s, not K/750s as logic might dictate.] Damn fine truck.
They are everything that's on a Chevy, but somehow better built. They sold them at Cadillac dealerships, so they mostly had the high end trim level. Their other market was fleet sales to mines, railroads, municipalities etc. The US military bought from both divisions for CUCVs.

Wait, what? I like GMC's too, but let's keep it real here. Better built? Weren't they built in the same factories as Chevrolet trucks? Did they tend to get more options than the average Chevrolet? Sure, but don't forget they were also sold at other GM dealerships, such as Buick. Not just Cadillac. Chevrolet sold many competing car brands, so the minor cosmetic changes and name rebranding allowed Buick, for example, to sell a truck that didn't share the same Chevrolet name as the competing cars.

OK no argument. I have heard that the GM production lines badged every 6th truck GMC during the 67- 72 run. In an earlier time they might have had their own separate plant, hence the different engines [270, 302 L6s, 305, 351 V6s], but by '67 they were gradually using Chevy engines.
I have heard the urban myth that workers had to have graduated from high school to work on GMCs, but I think this is a joke. And many dealerships sold Cadillacs, and/or Buicks, Olds, Pontiacs as well as GMCs.

Everyone knows that GMC is professional grade!

I used to work with a guy who swore GMC's had "heavier wiring". I told him that my family had a 48,59, 71, 93 and 02 GMCs over the years and the only diiference was engines and trim on the older trucks and trim on the newer trucks, but he wouldnt relent! Its funny that GMC was the workhoerse line back in the daybut is marketed more as a high end truck today.

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

Here's a couple pics of a 67 that I am finishing up. I still need to wet sand the front clip to blend with the orig patina on the rest of the body. 4.5/5 static drop, Boss 338 (20") 2004 5.3 with 4L60E, 3:73
I painted under the hood and firewall when eng was out- the color is the same as the orig body color, but my shop lights do weird effects on the shade. I like that mint green tho!
This cool old truck came from GM w/o radio, no pass side sunvisor, and no pass door mirror- and never had any of that installed. No rust (thru) on this one! :-) All orig glass including the W/S
