Re: US Tom

Time for an update on Tom. I got the battery box installed at long last!
And, I also got the Ride Tech stuff wired up too. The e3 air management is so much fun to wire up and see working, it's worth the price on that alone. I can see where getting an Air Pod would save a lot of time, but your options on where to put stuff is kind of limited.

Anyway, pix....

I made a mount to hold the valve assembly in the PB box. The bottom of the box has a rectangle cut out of it, and the valve body has two holes right in the the middle, so this was the best solution. The PB box is designed to hold an air compressor on the inside, and the holes on the outside are used to bolt a tank to it.

Here's the battery box. I relocated the battery to the opposite side of the bed from the Ride Tech stuff, just ahead of the tire. This simplified the wiring to power the compressor and the ECU. I added a junction box too. As you can see, all of this would have cluttered the engine compartment quite a bit.

I added shock relocator mounts from Scott's Hot Rods. This gets the angles for the shock better and is a bit stouter than the stock stud.

Turning the ignition to the ON position the first time when wiring all the stuff is always the true test. The reward comes in the form of the sound of the compressor starting up and seeing the display light up. Makes you want to afterward.

Thanks Kyle. I hope the part I do measures up to the part you did. Everyone loves the paint.

You know what, Mark? Seeing the job you did on the K-10 is what inspired me to take the time to plot out how I wanted this to look. I spent a lot of time tying thins down and protecting the airlines and wiring from sharp edges. I'm also using Grade 8 hardware on everything I can as well. If all the little things look good the big picture does too. That's the plan anyway!

My brother is an A&M grad, so I've root for them most of the time. I love all the traditions. Too bad the Ags bolted for the SEC, but it was so cool to see a former Big 12 team knock Alabama off.

Wow, tough crowd!

I've been working on getting the engine ready to pull. Now that the air ride is installed I can get this rascal off the lift and and reoriented in the shop.

Where's your updates, Mr Pot and Mr Kettle?

After I get the engine out, Tom goes back to Kyle's to get the firewall smoothed and painted. Thats when things start heading toward reassembly and maybe, just maybe i can catch up with you.

Re: US Tom

I got the old engine out and was able to identify it as a 79 4 bolt 350 with a whopping 190 hp. It's clean and it runs fine. I might put it in my lawn tractor or something.

Next I'll be cleaning the firewall and frame rails and get those painted before replacing brake and fuel lines. I'm going to get a later model steering box too.

Gotta love cleaning out decades of old gunk.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one that dumps trans fluid all over the floor when you pull and engine/trans combo..

190hp lawn mower nice....

I noticed my steering gear box has a small leak on the input shaft seal. Haven’t decided to rebuild it, or just replace it. What are the advantages of the late model gear boxes? Are they a direct replacement?

That's not trans fluid. I cut myself.

(Inside joke for Kyle)

Yeah, I placed a pan under there when I pulled the drive shaft, but one of the exhaust pipes got hung up on the motor mount and when I tilted it, the rest came gushing out. Made a trip to pick up some kitty litter.

A quicker ratio, and yes, they bolt right up.
