Re: 2 for 1 Part II...

Thanks Guys, right now I have an extra car, so I am trying to get him to fix it right and not rush it, but not drag it out either. Hopefully I can get him to fix a few issues at the same time...lol...

He needs to stay focused on school right now anyway. I will help him out with labor and the shop space...

Re: 2 for 1 Part II...

Well we went to LST, Korbin came back with a 1000 different ideas on what to do next, so he put some feelers out and most of them fell thru. He sold a Suburban that he had and made a little money that began to burn a hole in his pocket. So, last week he ordered a bunch of parts for this truck. Moser Axles where on the top of the list, since we think a bent stock axle is causing the shake/wiggle at speed...He ordered a some stuff to upgrade the engine and transmission. This week is spring break for him and he has a goal to get this truck redone and running with his upgrades by the end of the week. Still waiting on parts, but making progress.

Well, one picture to show at this time...What's going on here....

If you are asking about the front end damage, let's just say he is a teenager and was heading to class and not paying attention to the car in front of him at a traffic light...

That is his plan. I think if he would not sleep till noon, it could happen...

The fab of the hot side is mostly done, he has the motor out to replace the rear seals, still waiting on some parts to come in, but he is young and has too much on his plate to try to get this done in a week...

If it weren't for bad luck with these trucks, you wouldn't have any luck at all.

Re: 2 for 1 Part II...

Over the last couple of years that is so true around here...

On the other hand, Owen and I found him a first truck, or should I say, I was given a GMC Sonoma that we are going to fix up for his first truck. I hope to start a build thread this summer once he turns 15 and we get back from his Church Youth Missing Trip.

Sorry to hear about the accident (and the Missing Youth - see above). Cool to occasionally hear how you guys are involved in your church. I assume that's a mission trip. Where are you guys headed?

Really fun to watch this buildup and hope the repairs go well. I'd be lyin if I said I wasn't nervous about the turbo. I've actually had a similar type wreck 2x. Years apart, and now lots of years ago. So now my "traditional" first upgrades are brakes and steering. This info all comes from goodheartedness - in your case we kinda got to know your family as we followed your work on the trucks.

Thanks for the post Chris.

Korbin is working on getting the truck tuned at the moment with the turbo set up. Safety in all my builds is very important. The first one (Sunburn, the red truck) had corvette brakes and rack & pinion steering. It handled and stop really well on pavement, not so well on grass...

Owen and the High School youth group are headed to the Appalachian mountains for a week in July to make homes warm, safe, and dry for low-income families across Central Appalachia with the Appalachia Service Project in TN. I am going along as an adult sponsor, we are taking about 16 kids on this trip. We are looking forward to it. These trips are always an I opener for our youth as to the struggles that others have right here in our own country.

Re: 2 for 1 Part II...

Well, Korbin has it running with the turbo set up, but his bad luck continues. Torrington bearing in the first converter in the 4l80e broke and took out the trans. Luckily the guy he sold his extra one too, still had it and sold it back to him. He got a new better convertor and put a shift kit in the second trans. It's all back together and running. After the trans, it started not building more than a could of pounds of boost, a bunch of the welds that he cleaned up on the hot side at the turbo flange had cracked. His buddy's Dad had one of his good welders fix it up for him and he got it back together about 2weeks ago. Last week he had the tuner work on it and got it ok on 10lbs of boost. Monday, the power connector in the tank got hot and melted the connector, the pump is still good and he will get it rewired soon with better/heavier gauge wire. Then Tuesday he get sick and has to miss class....

The joys of building a Hot Rod!

He hopes to have it on the dyno and tuned up for C10's in the Park that is coming up on the 17th. Hope to see y'all there!

You hit it on the head again, but he has a goal and he is making it happen.

I hope you can check it out, but to be fair, it is not as nice or detailed as you trucks are but that's not the point of this truck either..

Re: 2 for 1 Part II...

Korbin brought WT out to C10's in the Park this past Saturday. Had a great time just relaxing and putting faces with names and catching up with friends. Great event and we are looking forward to next year.

If it all works out, that tan/red '84 in the pictures will be Owen's first C10. We will have to sell Tom to help fund it, but he will be much happier.

It's a shame Tom isn't an extended cab. I'd be solving your problem. Have a fresh 5.3 4l60 to boot. Can't do the small cab, though. Good luck, the tan one looks nice!

Karl, thanks for understanding my last post about the brakes and such. Just got caught up to date here. You guys did a great job repairing the front end. Can't tell from here that anything happened. I did go and read the Sunburn thread and saw the care you guys gave braking, steering, etc. too. And it looks like you also picked up another nice rig. I've been wanting to ask how the mission trip went. Appalachia, right? Home repair among other things?

The mission trip was great, did a ton of work on one house for a good family trying to turn things around. We had decent weather the whole week, even though it rained a few days late in the afternoon. We left them with a house that was dried in and on a stable foundation. All the kids worked a hard and had you could tell that both us and the family where touched by the work we accomplished. We were actually able to accomplish way more than the ASP group had planned for us. We had a great team of parents and kids, and no one got hurt!

Sounds like it was a great trip, with blessings to all involved. I'm glad to hear it went so well. It's amazing how those trips are meant to help out other people, and that happens for sure. But I'm always surprised by the benefit that we receive by helping.

Re: 2 for 1 Part II...

We will be doing a thread for Henry. Probably not starting till after the first of the year.

Depending on how things go over the next 2 weeks, I might be starting a new thread for my '65. I have been given a challenge by my oldest to get it running/driving for LST in late February...
