Same clear as paint...in essence it is paint on a sheet .
You use a activator to adhere, then dip and clear.

Re: 1953 Burb build

so I am about 90% done. At the glass shop now getting side glass cut and installed.
Interior is done except bolting in the rear seats.
Big problem is. I am a LS newbie, damn thing doesn't run worth a$hit. I guess I need to have a tune put in the engine and tranny.
Kind of flying blind there.

Re: 1953 Burb build

Outstanding!
Do you have a programmed PCM already? Access to HP Tuners? What does the engine do?

Re: 1953 Burb build

I've followed your build and love the results. Having swapped several LS based engines, my first question is how long has it run up to now? If only for a minute or two, crank it up and let it run. These engines have a "Crank Learn" mode, and the engine can run very rough at the start, but if everything is hooked up, it will smooth out in about 5 minutes if this is the problem. If this is not it, did you buy an aftermarket harness and PCM, if so, your supplier should have asked you for the engine displacement, injector size, what type of camshaft, etc, and then used this information to set up the tune. If this was done, the odds are that it is something besides the current tune.

If I were troubleshooting the engine, I would first pull the plugs to see if they are gas fouled. If not, then I would check the fuel pressure. If the pressure is good (over 55 PSI), then it is possible the injectors are plugged or restricted (a problem on almost every engine I've installed that had gas in the injectors before it sat for a while). I pull the injector rails (still hooked to the gas line), then pressure up the system, unplug the coil packs, then attempt to crank the engine. Watch the injectors, they should each fire a fine mist of gas as the engine spins. If not (say nothing or just a drip) that injector (or injectors) is restricted and will need to be cleaned. If the injectors are firing correctly, re install the fuel rail and check for spark (although you said the engine was running - just poorly - so spark should be OK). I use a tool NAPA sells that clips to the engine, plugs into the plug wire, and you can set the gap at the spec called for . Crank the engine again, you should get a good blue spark. If the spark is good, I would get on the phone to the person who sold me the PCM and wiring harness.

Good luck, once the engine runs, you will never regret this choice of power plants!

Re: 1953 Burb build

Thanks...it fires up and sounds great at idle. It is after pulling it in gear the problems start.
Feels like it is starting out in 2nd gear and bangs real hard when you first drop it in drive.
I put one mile on it and didn't like the feel so I put it back in the garage.
The PCM, Harness, motor and trans all came from the same guy in Denver. It is a 5.7 that is pre 2004.
Much past that I cant say anything else about it. It as a hell of a cam in it by the sounds....more lope then I have in my 383.
No doubt that it is all knew. All the sensors were new in the box. The engine was a complete rebuild as was the tranny. supposedly 485 hp

It looks great. You will get it figured out. It never starts and runs great the first try other than on those tv car building shows.

Re: 1953 Burb build

Iceburgh,
No doubt you will fix it. I checked with my buddy that does a lot of swaps and here is his suggestion...

He needs to check for dtc's, and see what vin is programmed into the pcm. I ran into this on travis firebird, it was programmed for a 6.0/4l80e should have been a 6.0/4l60e. It would start in 2nd(default) gear.
Some tuners will start with an incorrect base tune and do segment swaps, such as a different transmission, to the tune.
I read thru the build thread and it sounds like he is unsure of any of the programming. He should order an extra pcm with a "mail order tune", lots of companies doing this. I think bp-automotive does it. And then take it somewhere and have it dyno tuned. Some mail order companies will make the adjustments for cam, headers and such

Wow, that is horrible. Fortunately, it doesn't look like they will scam anybody else. After a quick Google search it shows that they are permanently closed.

Are you going to rebuild it or find another engine?

Re: 1953 Burb build

Just one of those things. Karma is a ***** and they will get theirs at some point.
Got a 6.0 I am putting in after some cashing in a few stocks. Rebuilding the 5.7 to put in my yellow truck with a carb and 700r that I have had sitting around. That will be the winter product.
FIL picked up a '56 bel air we will get started on as well.
Maybe a month before the burb is on the road....little late but better late than never

Good plans for recovery after a bummer of a deal. Hopefully you guys will do a build thread on the 56 BelAir? Plans for that one?
