Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Haven't done much of anything this month. Cleaned up a little wiring under the hood, and the bodyshop fixed the rust on the other door. Goes back in the bodyshop Monday for the cab corners, and then my rust will be gone.

Then I just have a ton of dents to deal with and save up to get it painted.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Pics of the repaired cab corners. Shop does nice work. The owner is very particular about body lines.

Also got a quote on the rest of the bodywork and a budget number on paint. $3k for the rest of the fixes with my supplying a new fender and a rocker, and $3500 on paint. Gotta save my pennies.

I didn't take any pictures but he did the bottoms of both doors inside and out and one rocker also. Probably going to have him do the other rocker to fix my screw up when he does the rest of the bodywork.

So far I am very happy with his work, and his attention to detail.

He told me today he had at least 6 people stop and try to buy the truck while its been sitting there. I told him if somebody offers $50k I'll give him 10%, any less is no deal!!!!!!!!...LOL

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Went to Tractor Supply today to get a big rubber mat with my helper.
She loves riding in the truck with me. We sing along to Beach Boys and Jan & Dean songs while we cruise.

Its a universal replacement from JC Whitney. It was too small for the hole so I had to use fender washers to mount it. Its a POS----reception was terrible. I installed a hidden antenna now, so I'm going to delete that one and plug the hole as I do the bodywork.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Found a nice set of nearly perfect truck rallye's on Craigslist. Bought them, then found a guy with another set, but his were not great. One wheel was perfect, the other 3 were either bent or curb rashed. So I wound up with a nice set of 5 wheels.

Going to paint them black and install new trim rings and centers. I got a set of cheapo plastic repop centers off eBay. They have the 4x4 medallions on them, but were barely glued on at all. One came off with my thumbnail. The seller refunded 50% of my money for the issue, so I just glued them back on. Then I applied vinyl decals (also eBay) over the medallions. So for $31 total, I think these look pretty good.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Started work on the inside of the bed today. PO had a peice of c-channel welded inside the bed as a spare tire mount, it unfortunately rusted one corner of the bed all to hell. Thankfully I purchased a plasma cutter back in the summer. I have most of it cut out and I can start putting back in tomorrow.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Found a passenger front fender today on craigslist. Less then 2 miles from my house, $50. It looks like its probably a TriPlus, was primered but never used.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

New Rallye wheels installed today. These are 80's 4x4 wheels. Makes my tires look so much better than the 6" rims, seems to ride better too. I had them blasted and powdercoated gloss black. Got new center caps on ebay and put custom center decals on them. I have trim rings but I kind of like the look without them.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Mostly just been driving the truck lately. Lat weekend my stereo died, so today I pulled the seat out to troubleshoot the amp. Found a blown fuse, but no evidence of why it blew.

Been smelling fuel the last couple of days, and turned out to be a good thing I pulled the seat---had a leak in the hose off the sender. Fixed that.

Had ordered a new alternator bracket because the header mount version I had sucked. That arrived this morning via USPS, so I painted it and installed. Soooo much better now, mounted to the head.

Also rewired the AC blower unit to include a relay and power from a separate fuse block I have under the hood. Blower would slow down a lot at idle, this should help.

Mostly, the truck is mechanically done now. I have 2 more small rust spots in the bed to fix, and I want to replace the rear brake lines and will re-do the back brakes completely when I do it. After that, its body and paint. Need to save my pennies for that part.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

New door handles and locks installed. Had the parts for over a year.....LOL.

Now one key does it all, and I can actually unlock the passenger door from the outside!

Been kicking around the shop truck type theme. Just can't muster up the funds for the paint and bodywork it needs. At the rate things are going thats gonna take 2 years. So I ordered a custom stencil for the doors. Going to try my hand at some simple lettering with the stencil and try to age it. Might give me enough "cool factor" so I can live with it for a while.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Stopped by the local truck accessories shop today to price a tonneau cover. I want a soft roll up type to cover the bed and hide whatever I stick in there. Turns out Truxedo makes one specific to our trucks, just have to order it because its not stocked.

Everybody in the place had to check out my truck. Nice running into 8 truck junkies in one place.

Think I will order the cover, but it will be a while before I can install it. Still have to plug the stake pockets.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Long weekend so I decided it was time to do the rear brakes. Had the parts here for almost a year. Needed a hose and new wheel cylinders in reality, but the lines were rusty and I had to buy a whole kit to do the front, and something will probably brake in the rear when I take it apart-----so I said screw it and I am doing everything. So far I have both side rebuilt with all new parts, right down to the last springs. Also got the rear portion of the new parking brake cables in. Tomorrow have to install the new stainless brake lines and rubber hose, and I'm replacing the master and the distribution block. That was everything is new. Then bleed all 4. Lots of work, but this is the last mechanical item I had not rebuilt.
