After weighing a bunch of options, it was knuckle down and work some overtime, then let someone else paint it. Even after letting someone else do the paint and body, it took them a month. However, I'm pretty happy with the results. He still has a few pieces that he's painting, but atleast I have the truck itself back in my possession.
Unfortunately for me I don't have overtime in my job so there is no way to make more money. I also have a problem with letting my truck out of my hands and into someone else's We will see what kind of price the painter throws at me, if I can afford it then I'll go for it but if not it will be back to me doing it. In the meantime I'm going to use my radiator cover as a test piece for spraying my torch red. It is the perfect size, if I screw it up then I can just throw it in the blast cabinet and blast the mistakes away.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Got a package in today that I have been waiting for a long time but was well worth the wait. I ordered these buddy covers from Tim at Truckseats and I have to say they are awesome. Tim was great with keeping me updated as Truckworld took a while to make them. I've been wanting the Black/White Houndstooth covers since the first time I seen them. After I picked up my buddy's it was the perfect time to get them. Don't mind the picture, I'm pretty sure I mixed up the tops and bottoms but you guys get the picture.

Just make sure you don't wait too long or you'll have a finished truck with no seats if you end up going with the Truckworld covers be prepared to wait for them a while. I went with black because with all the times I changed my mind on the color, I knew black would pretty much go with anything.

Thanks Jason, I know my thread is a bit of a comedy show when you read it because of my inability to stick to a plan. But the honest truth is after I decided to just primer it, I sat down and started calculating all the parts I still need along with all the work the truck still needs. Basically I don't have enough money or time to get this truck on the road this summer. It's already July and it just doesn't make sense to throw this truck together in primer just to drive it a few weeks before the winter hits. So I decided that if it's not going to be done until next spring/summer, that I might as well use the Torch Red paint I have and paint this sucker Red. I asked my father his opinion and he agreed that I shouldn't bother putting the truck together until the paint is done. I decided I don't want to have to tear this truck completely back apart again to paint it.
Oh and I'm excited about the buddy covers, even my wife really liked them when she saw them in person. She wasn't a fan previously.

Love those new seat covers!
Don't worry about changing your mind, we all do it. I want to drive mine this summer too, and mine is already painted. I worry at my snails pace it may be this fall. I had no clue how long it takes to do one of these restorations, not to mention the pile of cash.... Keep your head up and plow forward.

Yeah don't rush it. Kind of wished I hadn't tried so hard to drive mine this year.

I really like those seat covers. I'm stuck between the black/white or red houndstooth for mine. The black/white is by far my favorite but the truck would've had all red interior being its a '67.

Thanks Mike, I wanted to throw it together and just drive it this summer but it wasn't going to happen. Now I'm back to painting it so we will see how it works out. I work at a snails pace too so I'll probably still be working on it next summer instead of driving it I'm with you, I didn't realize how long it would take or how much money I would have to invest, definitely will never do it again.

Have you seen the red with red houndstooth covers. It's a nice looking cover and I would have probably went with it if I didn't already have my black interior pieces.

Don't feel bad Keith, mine has been painted and almost all together for a couple months and I still probably won't get to drive it this summer. When I start adding up all the little items I need it's still a lot of coins......

Yes I have and that's why I'm considering it. I was dead set on the black/white until I saw it.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

My wife's shoulder is doing a lot better this weekend so I was able to do some more painting. I sanded down my fenders with 180 to remove the runs and sprayed another coat of epoxy on. Now I'm ready for some Slick Sand. Hopefully will be spraying that on Tuesday. I changed the wires in my tent over to the conduit pipe like aggie91 suggested and it worked much better.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

I then decided that I wanted to spray a test piece and see how it would come out with the Torch Red and clear. Yesterday I sprayed some white epoxy over the bare metal. It laid down really smooth so only needed very light sanding today before shooting the base.

BAM we have Torch Red I'm pretty proud of myself for never doing this before. This is 3 coats of base and 3 coats of SPI Universal Clear. All I have to say is Torch Red is extremely bright in the sun, I definitely made the right choice.

Thanks Tom, it will probably be another month or two before I shoot anymore Red. I need to get the cab off the frame and finish the bodywork on it and the rest of the front clip. Then I will shoot the cab and front clip at the same time. A pic of the radiator cover under the garage lights. It has some dust nibs in it but I'm not worried about it.
