What jacks do you guys use?

My V10 is stock height but even then my 3 ton hydraulic jack still doesn't come close to lifting it. I have the original factory jack but those things just make me nervous...even when only lifting it to put in on my jackstands. I am looking for something that I can throw in my toolbox and use when changing a tire on the road. Hydraulic bottle jacks seem to lift high enough and are small enough to put behind the seat of in the tool box, but they don't seem much better than the factory jack. So, what do you guys use?

Re: What jacks do you guys use?

I have never fully trusted my old 3 ton bottle jack, so I replaced it with a 6 ton. Knock wood, I have never needed to use either one..... but the 6 ton gives me a better feeling of security. So far, all my repairs have been done in the carport, with a floor jack and jack stands.

Re: What jacks do you guys use?

5 ton floor jack in the garage. Longer Road trips either the 40$ 2 ton floor jack or the 12 ton bottle that was 13$ at a garage sale. I do have a Hi Lift as a last resort. If all else fails, AAA card. Never used it. Never wanted to be the guy that had to have another guy change a tire for me. The truck is high enough that the only thing I ever need a jack for is to get tires off anyway.

Re: What jacks do you guys use?

I use floor jacks with carefully placed block of 4x4 or 6x6 when I need to lift the frame. I can lift under the axles just fine...which is 95% of the time.

Re: What jacks do you guys use?

You could go with one of those nice aluminum jacks like your typical floor jack at a mechanics shop just the aluminum versions instead.

Re: What jacks do you guys use?

If you aren't at home, I find the original jack to be just about the only effective tool when you have a flat. Beyond that, a High Lift jack, but it's hard to find a place to put it on my truck without screwing something up.

I've actually added the OEM truck jacks to the trailer tool box and several of my trailers as it works for them as well and never leaks!

At home, my 3 1/2 ton floor jack takes care of lifting needs.

Re: What jacks do you guys use?

I just re-read your post, I was thinking height was the issue doing shop work. Just use the factory jack to remove a wheel. They work just fine and are safe. Any issues with those will be the user. A bottle jack does the same thing, but is totally dependent on a seal making/holding hydraulic pressure. No issues like that with the mechanical geared factory jack. GM doesn't like to be sued, so they made sure the jacks were more than adequate. I don't have any good 40 year old hydraulic jacks. I've never had a bad 40 year old factory jack

Re: What jacks do you guys use?

5 ton bottle if I can get under the frame or axle, HiLift if not.
