Cool Garage Sale Find

Wife and I like doing yard/garage sales since you never know what you might find. Came across this some time back. From 1931, GM Frigidaire recipe book. 50 pages of the "latest" info on the new "Flat Top Refrigeration Units" from GM! Punches, ice cream making, sherberts, custards, meat salads, etc. Just thought it was pretty cool from the General way back. Couldn't pass it up for the $3.00 it was priced at. In the display case with die cast trucks and cars.

That is cool, I love older stuff like this. Just fun to look at and think about different times.

Re: Cool Garage Sale Find

Seen a ad on kijiji about a month back Frigidaire fridge for sale said General Motors on the front in big letters. Guy advertised as a great bargain for a man cave. Said it even works. Now the hard part to get past the wife $2500.00 firm no low ballers. It’s not on there anymore so I guess someone had to have it.

Re: Cool Garage Sale Find

I actually have one of the GM fridges from that era. I had been planning on redoing it but haven't gotten it done yet.

Re: Cool Garage Sale Find

Yeah, I was really tickled to find it. Not really truck related other than being for a GM Division product but cool in it's own right.

On a side note, the beer fridge in the shop is an early 50's Hotpoint that my wife's folks used on the farm years ago. Butter, milk, eggs, and any overflow from the main fridge in the kitchen. Been re-wired with a new cord, works great and keeps the adult beverages COLD, LOL. Pull down handle, single door and the little bitty freezer in the center. Maybe about 12'' by 12'', keep 4 Crown Royal glasses in there for a snort now and then. Thought about a clean and re-paint but decided to just leave as is with the "patina" from the farm use.

I haven't been quite brave enough to put a new cord on mine and see if it still works. It sat outside for a lot of years. It is a good size and not terribly big

Re: Cool Garage Sale Find

Will try some of the recipes at some point. Most all of them seem to be for hot summer time, going into fall not as many recipes apply them selves to current weather. Still neat find tho.

Re: Cool Garage Sale Find

Great find and old recipes are often interesting. Also interesting are the legs the ‘fridge is sitting on, making it look more like a cabinet. Perhaps to keep the look of the old ice box.

Re: Cool Garage Sale Find

I also own a GM Frigidaire from the early 1940's and it still works. Bought it in March 2006 and still haven't done anything with it.

Agree 100%! We buy something because it's old, then tend to want to "fix it up". Keeping the item as original as possible keeps the charm that attracted us to it to begin with. Patina is history.

(I've been telling my wife this for years.....don't try to "fix" vintage! )
