Re: Medium Duty trucks

Baddriver455:

I just got the news from the inspection station. it is not good. I told them to put it all back together. I will pay for inspection and start chipping away at the repairs. it is an extensive list.
The good news is that I do not have split rims. The inspection shop confirmed that. I will post here as soon as I can get the info off of the rims. Did you visit stovebolt.com? Bushytlb refered me to that site. It has a lot of good information.
Post some pictures of your C-50 to support the site. The more posts that we get the better the chance there is to get our own medium truck forum.
Thanks, Steve.

Re: Medium Duty trucks

Thanks Steve, I do visit the stovebolt site occasionally but haven't found much info on there that I really needed so far. I do have the accuride part number for the wheels, just wondering if yours were a different brand I could check on that would be more affordable.

Bushy:

Truck still in shop. Snow delays. I will post info on rims. They are not split rims. Truck needed wheel cylinders all the way around, grease seals, two tires, parking brake repairs and various minor repairs. I chose to let them do it as I am not sure when I could find the time. I just bit the bullet and paid.

Nice to see your truck in action!

Re: Medium Duty trucks

Any information regarding conversion from split rims to solid or any other option would be welcome. The split rims that I have seem to have a center hole of 6.25 that is the hub pilot to center the rim, wheel and tire on to the axle of the truck. There are 10 lug holes in rim. Lug nuts have all in one washer and nut design. Fronts use 5 studs and rear duals use all 10. What are the options? Oh the tires on it are 8.25x20s. What is the best way to accomplish a conversion t with out spending a boat load of money? bushy

Re: Medium Duty trucks

Mines a 5500 with hydraulic brakes..Its an interesting feeling trying to stop it with 6 tons of rock in the back...especially when you are accustom to driving newer big trucks!

Re: Medium Duty trucks

Ha 72freak; Pretty looking motor and brakes. Are they new brake shoes? Looks to be the same brake arrangement as on my 67 c50. Do you have a part # you can share? Would like to replace mine while I have them apart. What I know they are 5x15. bushy

Re: Medium Duty trucks

Ha 72freak; I see your 5500 gmc has a single master cylinder without a vacuum booster. I have the single master cylinder though have a vacuum booster. I was wondering if a guy could change it to a double reservoir so if you brake a line you would still have one brake circuit? By the way I'm looking for some front fenders for my 67 c50? Any boneyards with the old girls in it. Maybe Bus front clips. Any help would be appreciated. Bushy By the way I lived in Smyrna Ga. for a summer between Dobbins Air Force Base and the Cumberland mall. Played in the Chattahoochee river. What do you think of me now? bushy

The vacuum booster is under the cab under the drivers seat mounted to the frame....you can spot them normally by the breather cap looking thing under the seat. Good luck on the front fenders.....you and everyone else that owns a medium duty are hunting them!!! There use to be a junkyard in Dallas Ga. that had a bunch of them (trucks and busses) but he crushed them all. I live 3 miles from Dobbins!
All of the brake components were NEW whan I did it and i found everything I needed at Carquest in Marietta on Fairground St....Try them. Atlanta Safety Brake also had the booster when I replaced it, so Im sure they have the rest of the components. I saved the old pads that were in good shape and I will see if they have a # on them.

Re: Medium Duty trucks

Is there really that much demand for 50+ series fenders? There is a 68 C-50 bus near me that is for sale cheap. I just wanted the gauges out of it, but the front sheetmetal is rust free. It does have a few small dings, nothing that can't be fixed. I just didn't want to buy the thing and have to cut it up for scrap.

Re: Medium Duty trucks

I love these trucks. i think it would be cool to make a custom truck hauler from one. just curious (probably a dumb question) but do you have to have commercial liscense to drive one like you do a tractor trailer??? is it based off of hauling tonage??

thanks! (sorry to hijack)

Here's the best picture I have right now. I also have a front clip and doors I was going to use on my truck. But I'd like to sell the whole works truck and clip if the price is right.

I would dare say that 90% of the people that own them need new front fenders!

Re: Medium Duty trucks

The fenders on my truck are all bondoed up and rusting through again. when they repainted it last they must not have done any straightening, just filled everything with bondo.

Re: Medium Duty trucks

What were the engine options like for these beasts? I know GM made a tall-deck 427 for something, like schoolbuses maybe, but could you get it in these?

292 I6, 283 SB V8, 327 SB V8, 366 BB V8, 427 BB V8. The vents on the hoods are only on the big block trucks and the ones with 427s say "427" on the vents.
