The motor is actually nothing fancy. It's a 73 454 (.100 over) with a little bigger cam, heads, carb and intake from the original 402, flat top KB pistons. I wanted a stock engine but the 402 had a crack in it so I had to look for another block. Found this 454 which were supposed to be good, put on the heads, carb, intake, exhaust, oilpan from the 402. Engine smoked bad so I took it out and found a bad oilring. Measured it up and found out it was .40 over but needed a new bore. Ordered a .60 overbore and pistons. Machine shop did something wrong and bored the block to somewhere around .80 over. No pistons avaliable in that size so they had to take it up to .100 and by me new pistons. Thats why I have the big cube stock set up, sounds great and lot's of torque. I have been thinking of some upgrades but I still want the stock look.

The speedo is from a truck sold new here by GM of Sweden, they were equipped with kilometer speedo (option U18), 160 KPH same speed as 100 MPH. I have made a couple of those KPH numbers in sticky vinyl using the one in my truck as a template. But note the KPH speedo just have 9 markings while the MPH speedo have 11.

Re: Big block engine bay pics!!

Glad the machine shop slip up worked out in your favor. Thanks for the info on the speedo too. Any links to more pictures of your truck?

Re: Big block engine bay pics!!

Did any of you putting a BB in a 67 or 68 have to modify the firewall or anything? Fixin to put one in mine and was not sure. Thought about mocking it up but it would save time if I didn't have to worry about it. And I could go ahead and start on body work

That ZZ572 in my 67 is a tall deck (10.24 in deckheight) and longer than any big block out there. It was a drop in on the stock big block engine stands. It fits close in the back and there is no way to pull the distributor out without pulling the engine but it fits! Any GM engine you choose should fit.

Re: Big block engine bay pics!!

Thank you. Will save time instead of having to wait on getting block and stuff back. I can go ahead with body work. Thank you. Also I am using a 454
