Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

Got to agree with Grumpy Old Man, it's much easier here in TN to title. My Vin Tag on the door pillar matches my Frame Vin information, but glad I don't have to go through the process that you do in California. I am curious about later model Vin tags. Mine's a 68, but I took a couple of pictures yesterday at a local junk yard of later model (71's I believe) that had a tag applied on the door pillar - didn't see the Vin numbers at the bottom until I posted these! Mine has two separate tags, When did they go to one tag? Hope the pictures are clear enough!

On a separate note, Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2017.

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

I don't know everything but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express! I have no idea where they could possibly pull 5 partial vins. Help me out here, frame rail, maybe the firewall, where else?

Grumpy old man nailed it, go to different DMV, say less, get more done!

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

Well the chp refused to say how they came to say such a thing .he wouldnt give me answers to any of it .then tells me i need 5-10years of proff my friend had owned the truck .OK I found out it has had an sb100 form done to it .it's classified as a speacialty constructed truck . All of this was done in 2013 . I'm not sure what to now
The dmv worker told me if a secondary vin could not be found the chp is to issue me a blue tag for the vehicle. ..chp refuses to do this !!!!!!
How do you add pictures here ?

You are saying it has a '73 front clip on it? That would be (nearly) impossible, or at least A LOT of work since '72 and '73 are different generations of truck.

Why don't you post up the VIN so we can take a crack at it; just use "XXX's" for the sequential portion so there are no security concerns.

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

I'm not sure what you mean by xxx's is that the first 3 in the vin .
Yes the entire front clip is from a 1973
The partial vin on the engine block is from a 1969 ss Camaro. And I'm not concerned with the motor as I have 4 more blocks that have sequential numbers for 1969 too .I'm happy with that

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

When you say front clip. Do you mean the front crossmember? The one the control arms are mounted to. Not the sheet-metal?

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

I would love to see some pictures of that. I can't imagine the sheet-metal lining up with the 70.

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

Well I just checked the driverside frame rail under the cab .the frame is a 72 .the bed is a 72
Body and front end are 73
Sorry for the confusion and misspeculation on what this truck truly is
Its hard for me to figure out as I'm used to full sized c20 trucks or 63-66 chevy trucks ..I've never owned a 70s c10 before

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

B W. I didn't say anything to the dmv clerk me and my friend went to the dmv with the intention of simply paying the registration costs as it expired the day before .
When we got there and handed over the paper work she informed us that we needed a copy of the death certificate of her dad so he could be removed from the title .then she informed us it needs a brake and light inspection and a vin inspection done too
Nothing and no comments to the dmv clerk at all from us
Her dad had done a specialty reconstructed vehicle and the title shows 0000 for the make year .
Come to find out through his friends he completed the sb100 form plus the bar form required for this type of construction. That paperwork was completed in March of 2013 by him .but now I'm doing a sb1578 form to re-register this truck in my name

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

We can help, but not without more info.
Post a picture of your truck.
Post the VIN too, if you prefer you can replace the last 6 digits of the VIN with x's, that is what Keith is telling you.
If there is a SPID sticker on the glove box door post a picture of that too.
There are some extremely knowledgeable people on this board. Post that info and you will get quality help.

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

Well I think I posted a picture of it .but not really sure .as for the vin . Ccy143zxxxxxx
What other info can I give ? I've never dealt with a speacialty vehicle before .only regular registration paper work
I am coming to understand that this truck is no where near original. Because her dad was a gaser. He build all kinds of kit cars to race over the years maybe some of you know the name aggravated racing .that's the name he was known by for his anglia

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

That's a 73-87 cab and bed....I'm sure the frame is too, beings it doesn't make sense to swap frames to an earlier one. If the year decoded to 73-87 check the frame on the passenger side just aft of the pulley line...that's where your partial shoul be

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

Well I appreciate the answers .thank you .as for the frame no no numbers anywhere on it except behind the gas tank on the outer part of the frame under the cab driver side
Question If the frame should be a 73 how do I have a registration from dmv that shows 1972 .and what is the deal with year model on title being 0000 ?????

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

It could be a good driver truck meaning don't invest 1 penny in anything but maintenance and have a safe driver ONLY IF YOU CAN GET IT FOR A FANTASTIC PRICE , it's a title work nightmare forever and that will keep its value very low on that model .

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

I don't plan on anyone but me doing anything with it ..I plan on making it a 1/4 mile truck but that's not till I get the roll cage 4 link suspension. Also I'm finding it rather daunting to locate a locker rear-end that fits a 8 3/4"
I already own it well providing I'm able to finish the paperwork
And I only paid 1400$ for the truck .but that was before being painted .that didn't cost me very much I had friends paint it for a very decent price including paint primer/sealer and hand sanding the entire truck .the truck was painted in an actual paint shop
MY only question now is how do I have chp give me a blue tag vin plate ?????

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

You won't need a title for a 1/4 mile truck...forget registering it if it's a toy just soup it up and drive the track...no registration required.

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

Well that's down the road in the future .I won't do that until I find another on in better condition then this one .for being a speacialty constructed vehicle I was surprised to find no cancer and no body damage .it's rare to find vehicles for a reasonable price .not paying a mortgage on a car just to buy it in a good enough condition to make it worth restoring
I've always preferred old-school cars and trucks to modern ones
The only question I need an answer for is how do I aquire a blue tag from chp?

Re: wheres the hidden vin?? Help?

Don't know anything about Cali laws other than I don't want any part of them...no offense beautiful country, and if it had laws like Texas I'd move there in a heartbeat. However, I can't stand being told what guns I can have, what I can do to my own truck, etc.... I'm a fan of freedom, and Cali is defiantly not. I don't need a government that limits me and my way of life, I need one to defend me and my way of life.
