Epoxy primer re-coating
I was reading In The Ten Ring's thread about re-coating epoxy primers and realized my "plan" has a potential flaw.
The plan is to start with the fenders and doors one at a time before bringing the Suburban body home. They would be sandblasted, initial body work and body filler, then epoxy primer. Then they would be stored in a dry heated garage till the body work is done on the body. The primer is PPG EPX 904. The data sheet says to top coat within 4 days. After 4 days mechanical abrasion is required before re-coating. It may be a year or more before topcoating. Is there a sanding primer or something else I can put on that will require less sanding before topcoating? There will be more body work to do on the parts. Thanks Paul

Re: Epoxy primer re-coating
Go ahead a spray on some high build primer after the epoxy. Normally I don't recommend spraying the high build before storing but since your putting in a heated storage you will be fine. the reason I don't recommend it is the high build[along with any other primer other than the epoxy] will attract moisture. But since your in the dry go ahead and spray high build it will be less work.

Thanks Hugger
Should I stick with PPG paint or doesn't it matter? Paul

Re: Epoxy primer re-coating
Paul I've never been a fan of crossing lines while in the middle of a job I use PPG stuff primarily Omni to be more matter of fact. I use the MP primers 174 and 282 that is the epoxy and high build primers and absolutely LOVE them. The use of Omni over the top line PPG stuff can save you anywhere from 10% to 90% on materials.

Re: Epoxy primer re-coating
Yes it will. MP is just the part number prefix on the Omni primers like MP282 is the high build.
