I'm doing my interior resto-mod. putting in buckets and a full color change. but dont know what to do about a sub/subs. I'm more interested in people with subs and bucket seats. im just running out of options. this is for an 89 swb single cab

Re: where are your subs located?

Regular cab, right? You have two choices: behind the seat or under it. Look at www.crutchfield.com and see what they have in the way of those that fit under the seat. Behind the seat, you will probably be losing all of that plastic stuff that contains your lug wrench, jack and so forth, as you seek a place to put the box....if that's how you decide to do it.

There's another forum on here that deals with audio issues. Check it out.

placement of sub 89 chevy std cab

I'm redoing the interior on my truck and putting in bucket seats. is there a console sub enclosure that will work in 88-98 chevy trucks. single cab. or am i forced to follow the crowd and put it behind my seat. i don't want to make one as it would end up looking like poo. haha. any help is much appreciated.

Re: where are your subs located?

If you have the sub(s), and you have a truck.....then put them together and you'll have your answer.

Re: where are your subs located?

well its the concept of how I dont want to build 10 custom enclosures. until i find the right location. plus this is the first time ive ever had bucket seats in a truck. i just dont want my interior to look like crap like it has for the past few years. i really like the JL stealbox though, but 600 is way to much for it.

Re: where are your subs located?

I've got a custom built center console with a 12" subs and cd changer. I'd love to have it redesigned and more streamlined, but it gets the job done

Re: placement of sub 89 chevy std cab

Not sure, I always make my own enclosures. I did a center console sub in my Toyota truck years ago and worked out well. I know that there is one for the Dodge Ram that replaces the bottom seat section of the middle in the bench with a sub, might be something like that for a chevy.

Re: placement of sub 89 chevy std cab

I save make it yourself..there is alot of info on tha net about stuff like that..get some poster board to make a pattern..build tha sub part out of MDF..tha rest out of 1/4 ply..a full length with cup holders would flow better than jus a short box & somewhat hide tha sub..

That looks real nice, too. Wish I could lose my center seat for something like that.

Re: placement of sub 89 chevy std cab

taking on a whole interior at once is a major PITA. my only problem with building my own is it will look really bad. I am an experiencedsound guy but all the boxes i make go under seats or behind them. just wantedto see if anyone had somthing unusual. but this is starting to look like one is going behind the seat. as I'm hoping to get my new seats tomarrow and get them dyed.

Re: where are your subs located?

Re: where are your subs located?

It was originally built by a high end stereo shop on Long Island, but they screwed up. I had 2 12" subs in there but they were different ohms! And in the same enclosure within that center console. My (now) husband, then boyfriend, took it apart, rewired it (wire spices every few inches and feet) and removed one sub and enclosed the box to the proper size and it sounds incredibly better!!!

The cupholders I purchased from a friend who worked at a dealership. I think they are out of a minivan or something

For cup holders, check out boat shops. Heres a example. $15.00 dollar cup holder.

Re: where are your subs located?

You don't have to get subs....just get some high quality speakers put in by some pro's and they will sound just as good. There are some systems that would make you think you have two 10 inchers in there.

Re: where are your subs located?

The thing that kills your stereo system, regardless of where it is, is distortion. Cheap speakers, driven by good amps, die because the amp over-drives the speaker and that creates distortion. My first "high-end" home stereo still lives and it is 42 years old. My speakers are rated at half the RMS power that my amp can produce. Very seldom did I ever crank up the volume over the half-way mark, but the speaker still live.

Same for your car/truck.

Think of it like this: When you have a small engine in a big vehicle, you have to stay on the gas a lot more. If you have the same vehicle, and you have a huge-by-large engine, it's easier to keep it going with less gas.

So, buy a good quality speaker. Use some sound-deadening in the right places. Make sure all of your connections are good and tight. If they aren't, your sound quality will suffer. If you've seen an electrical connection that wasn't tight, and then you've seen blackened wires when you take that wire nut off, or when you examine the connection on a breaker that keeps tripping, you've seen the evidence. Even though audio signals are way lower voltages than house electricity, the principal applies. It may be easier to just twist those wires and wrap them with black tape, but please make sure you strip enough insulation from the wires to be able to have a good connection. Use butt splices and crimp them sufficiently, then wrap it with electrical tape or use shrink tubing to keep the moisture from affecting it.

Re: where are your subs located?

guys, im 19. subs are a neccessity for me. (19 year old mindset.) I do sound systems quite often for costomers and friends. i was just looking for any unique boxes like what annie has. thanks for the info on the boat shops, i wouldn't have even considered that. but at this point I'm just putting a set of old buckets in a cheap sub for my behind the seat box and have the console enclosure as a weekend hobby. thanks for the help.

Re: placement of sub 89 chevy std cab

I know all too well what a pain in the ass the WHOLE interior is as a project. Mine is going on about 2 months now and I still need a steering wheel, some more paint in the cab, and my subs.

Re: where are your subs located?

I have an 88 single cab but with a bench, I had my 2 10' subs in separate boxes behind the seat back... But they were different sizes so my friend sold me a single bench unit behind the seat.. So that's my set up... I love the sound of a 350 with straight pipes and true dual 40 sieries flowmasters with turn downs, and some bass in the background give me a back rub lol

My system was installed by "pros" and they did a crappy-arse job. Make sure someone who you know and trust does the install.
