Post Unknown Part on Transmission

On my TH-350 transmission there is a small box that goes between the transmission and the speedometer. The speedometer actually screws into it. Does it have something to do with the calibration of the speedometer? Thanks to whoever solves this mystery.

it changes speedometer cable speed, faster or slower whichever gear ratio it has in it determines that
