Goldie gets her proper day in the sun /1968 slant nose

So I have owned this truck for 10 years and it has worn many hats in its time. She has been in cold storage for the last 4 years. I started gathering parts for the rebuild and face lift about 3 years ago (still gathering parts as things always change haha).

My pride and joy is a 1968 Chevy longbed C10 Custom cab with factory AC 25th anniversay edition. Phew a mouth full.

I brought her home a couple of weeks ago and got started. As of right now I only have one day a week I can work on the truck since there is a new born in the house and I work two jobs but winter is coming so late nights and busted knuckles here we come.

I will try and add more and more every weekend I get a chance. Ill update the rest of the new parts. There is a long lost of things to do. At this point once the motor is out just need to pull the frame and get started making a super solid foundation. She doesnt have patina but I am not going to paint her or change the outside execpt for cutting the side boxes into the bedsides and adding the lumber rack.

As of right now the plan is all new suspension and steering front to back. Obviously praise the lowered and bring her down even lower but as of now just a static drop with helper bags in the rear when loaded up. The motor is a 283 and will stay the same it was rebuild and put in less than 10000 miles ago. She currently has a t350 but will get a 200R4 instead for overdrive. The ignition system will be upgraded to a full msd set up and efi. I have a full black out msd 6al box, billet dist, coil and efi carb set up to improve engine performance. Lets face it not going to win any drag races or pull out a stump with the 283 but she will run nice and smooth. The rearend currently has 307's and not sure if thats going to stay the same or not but it needs to be rebuilt and cleaned up as well. The brakes will also be upgraded to discs in the front with drop spindles.

I really like the rendering with the boxes cut like that. Never seen that done before. On one hand its going to be a styling truck, on the other is also going to be very utilitarian, exactly what a truck was meant to be.

On a side note when you said your good buddy Johnny (pal in the song) came by to help it got a George Thorogood song stuck in my head, thanks haha.

Re: Goldie gets her proper day in the sun /1968 slant nose

Thanks CG it is going to be a journey to get to that point but veen looking forward to getting her going. I used to love utility trucks and always wished when I was on a side job that I had more than just a bed box to hold tools at a site. When the first c10's started showing up with full utility beds I was sold and dont know why I didnt think of it but then soon everyone was doing it and it was a bit to much. So I kinda thought about doing the low pro side rail boxes which I was pretty sold on because I wanted to still keep it a bit slick looking. Then one day on instagram with a shop I was following when I used the app they had a short bed with full size side boxes cut into it. So i kept an eye out on CL and found two white just under 8ft slightly beat up delta boxes for $100! I was stoked!! Although I am going to wait till the end to do them because I still have a crap ton of work to do before that.

Personal preference here, but I hope you keep the idea for the renderings wheel and tire combo instead of possibly being seduced by the giant wheel combos we see all the time.

Yea keeping small wheels. 15's with a 215/70 or 215/75 . I like a more traditional style. Oh and the tires mounted and balanced are under 600 for all 4 hahaha

Re: Goldie gets her proper day in the sun /1968 slant nose

Okay okay okay I hadnt forgot everybody. Been doing work as i can a little slow but getting what i can done. Tore apart the interior and got the dyno mat done up to the firewall. Havent finished cause I want to weld up some holes first. Since I was in there I took out everything which will include the wiring soon ( hace to choose the wiring harness I want to use). Upon cleaning up the steering column I went a little over board like I do and took it completly apart so I could rebuild it and paint the lower portion. Along with painting that I also cleaned up the core support rear trailing arms and splash pan to paint those too. Originally I was going to run the 283 I had put in not to long ago but as always plans changed and now I am rebuilding my 327 block to run the dart heads I have that are ported and polished. Just a little more pep to move on down the road. I am working on dropping the frame down from the cab and bed soon so it can be pressure washed. Since I am running a 200r4 I need to move the transmission cross member and also remove the stock trailing arm crossmember to replace it with the new dropped one. Last but not least begore painting the frame I need to do the C notch. Hooefully I will have more to post in a couole weekends and maybe it will be down on the ground again.

Re: Goldie gets her proper day in the sun /1968 slant nose

Been swamped working on my buddies Cadillac and waiting for more parts to come in. June will be a bigger month hopefully.... same ole song and dance hahaha

Got the new intake, aeromotive fuel pump and regulator. Ordered a full 12 bolt rebuild kit and 3.42 posi plus new front and rear sway bars. Also went ahead and popped for the painless wiring harness... have gone this far might as well rewire too.

Finished up the firewall now for some paint.

Also found some old photos of the time we drove to buy a Model A and the long bed everyone made fun of but was perfect.

Re: Goldie gets her proper day in the sun /1968 slant nose

After a weekend of running around Mom let me go out and play in the garage hahaha. Did what I could for now. Finished up the Dynamat then laid in the carpet to see what needed extra coverage and I cut out strips of some cheap carpet you can get from kargen to finish it off.

Re: Goldie gets her proper day in the sun /1968 slant nose

Also got a chance to weld up the heater box hole. Still undecided on what to do with the door panels. I removed the white vinyl and since I ended up with black carpet not sure if I am going to paint them white or black. So for now they are just going to stay like this. Kinda cool but almost feels like trying to hard even though I didnt do anything. I had extra Dynamat so I covered the backs anyways.

Re: Goldie gets her proper day in the sun /1968 slant nose

My order from brother came in over the weekend but I wasnt at the shop to pick it up till today so tonight I was like a kid in the candy store opening everything and playing with new parts!!!! Got the new dash with tach installed....and yes I know not a manual truck so no need for a tach but I like it. Since my gauge cluster has the choke delete I swapped covers and I like tge weathered look with the new gauges. Also ordered new arm rests, dash pad and sun visors (back ordered). I chose saddle and was kinda disapointed when it showed up cause I was thinking more baseball glove from the pictures and it is for sure just brown. But with the door panels not being painted they dont look bad at all. Mind you this is all garage light I could really hate it once she hits the sun. Anyways I snapped a few photos.
