tempature gauge problems

hi i got a 08 sierra with a v6, and every couple days the gauge stops working the check engine light comes on and my gauge reads engine hot ac turned off. if you reset the light the gauge starts working then a day or two later it does the same, we changed the sensor and there was no change anyone know what this could be?

Re: tempature gauge problems

It's probably a failing thermostat. I know that sounds stupid and ironic but it's just the way the computer works and tries to protect itself. If your motor is truly not overheating and the temp sensor is not bad, it probably is the thermostat opening too early. Often the motor is actually too cool, not too hot. (long story I don't feel like typing). Anyway, for < than $10 bucks you should be good to go again. You will also need to reset the code by disconnecting the negative battery lead for a minute or two. I'm pretty confident this will fix your issue.

Re: tempature gauge problems

Oarngesi, did replacing the thermostat fix the problem? If not, we can try a couple of other things.
