I seen that blazer on ebay, I was wondering if anyone noticed the rivets on vin plate?

Re: Blazer on ebay

I noticed those rivets. I took the picture. I'm the owner and know the previous owner pretty well (we both live in a town of less than 2000). I believe they are correct and have never been tampered with. Why would I post a picture if they are not. The tow hook was never a factory option, just added by first owner. The compass on the dash works fine and needs no batteries. I'd just as soon this one don't make my reserve so I can keep it.

Re: Blazer on ebay

Hey, the main thing is that all the numbers match - Title, Vin plate and frame. For good measure, the SPID in the glove box.
I'm putting a new/clean cab on my Black 4x4, so I have to remove the VIN plate from the old cab. Got to rivit it back on with closet type rivits - I if you find 'em; GM Rose Bud rivits are a little pricey.

That thing looks great. I like all the little add ons. I think what they are refering to on the rivits is that the original ones were usually a star shape, not perfectly round rivits. Usually means the plate was removed for painting but could also indicate it was titled from another vehicle after a rebuild and the numbers might not match the frame, engine, etc.

Good luck with the sale. I go through Blooming Prairie a lot on my way to Austin. There was a body shop in that town that was run by the guy at the liquor store I think. He had worked on a lot of 67-72 trucks and had a very nice one for sale there a couple years ago. Sometimes I see a yellow truck in a driveway just north of town there. Yours?

Re: Blazer on ebay

I'm east of town so not my yellow blazer. The guy you referred to is Roger Trom. He had his shop next to the liqour store and moved it about 8 miles west of town. He is a real perfectionist. He just does one at time and really is a chevelle guy at heart. Right now he is doing a 50 chev.deluxe coupe 60s gasser style. Geez, since you like all the add ons, I should go out and take a pic of the heater in the back. Aint right, but its cool and works great.

Sure, I'd like to see it. I'm sure some others would also.

What's the new truck you are replacing this with?

Re: Blazer on ebay

Unreal. First you have a blazer that's pretty much original and survived our northern winters without rusting away and then a 13000 mile ford that is in incredible shape.

its all about the chase. I believe your money ahead paying a bit more up front than doing the resto route. It took awhile in each case to buy them.

I believe that is true. And it's what I would do if I just wanted to have a certain vehicle. In my case, the building part is why I do it.

Re: Blazer on ebay

oh believe me I love the building part of any project. My problem is that I don't have the skills, tools, or time for it. Sure I can wax, change fluids, stuff like that but thats about it. I dig all older vehicles and admire people that do em, and that is why I enjoy this site. Lots of knowledge here. Name: my 72s thanksgiving 047.jpg

Gorgeous Blazer, loving the single-wall top and the gun rack. I am guessing that isn't a northern truck, did you bring it up here?

Size: 45.7 KB I didn't say it was factory heater, but it works nice. The previous owner installed it with soldered copper lines and a valve under the hood you can shut during the summer. Could it have been an early 60 s air cond. unit switched to a heater? You have to remember to shut if off (he has it wired direct) or she sucks the battery dry real quick.

Re: Blazer on ebay

Hey i love shag carpet! That stuff is the shiznit! But that thing really is beautiful for being an original survivor. But those are the correct rivets. My 72 has the same style rivets and the plate has been painted over, but definitly the correct rivets. The type that have the pull through ball and stud

Re: Blazer on ebay

Its is a nice blazer, and I'm not trying to start a argument over the rivets but they are not factory. I've parted out over 500 trucks in these years, only times I've seen those kind of standard rivets is when someone changed them out, and thats only been a handful of times. I wish you luck selling it someone will get a nice blazer.

Re: Blazer on ebay

If that were sold to someone in KS and brought in to this state to be registered it would quickly fail the inspection process here (mandatory for all out of state vehicles). As Randy stated those are not the correct rivets and would quickly be noticed by the inspector. Very nice blazer though.

Re: Blazer on ebay

The vin plate rivet dilemma could be easily solved by getting a picture of the vin that is stamped on the frame... if it matches, cool beans. If not, or if there isn't a vin on the frame, well..... hopefully the new owner won't have to go thru a state inspection.
