Steve@oldsub.com needs help

I met Steve this summer at a car show. Steve has been battling cancer for almost a year now. I decided to check up on when he posted last here and found he hasn't been here since Oct.
I went to his home jounal page and found this:

It is now early December. I’ve lost all of November. As of yesterday, we will have lived in the hospital for five weeks. It doesn’t look like we’ll be leaving any time soon. And when we do, it will likely be to a rehab facility before heading home.

We came to the hospital this time with pneumonia and a bacterial infection in the blood. I’ve needed to be on oxygen full time since October. And while they’ve been able to treat the symptoms, I am left very weak and deconditioned, and still unable to eat more than a few bites of food.

Several people have asked me recently if ‘no news is good news’. In fact the opposite is true. No news is bad news. My father has had a heart attack and that has added to my discouragement. It is very difficult to be confined here for so long and be unable to be with our family. I need your continued prayers and encouragement.

If anyone has a chance to go and register at his journal site and give him a good thought and a prayer I'm sure he would appreciate it.

Re: Steve@oldsub.com needs help

I know he's had it rough for a while. Glad for the update. Also note that any donations made in Steve's name will go to caring bridge. Steve will not see any proceeds. I'll have to dig out another old thread. IIRC nonhog had his churches info that we can donate to so that he gets money directly.

Just a note; it's very easy to register there.
Quick & painless and you can leave a message immediately from the same page that you register on.
If you haven't done it yet, please take a minute to send wishes to a brother.

And he will. He's got a shop full of cool stuff and big dreams to fullfill including a COE. Nonhog & I were honored to meet him and share an afternoon with him. Steve also won over my daughter with some cookies too. Get well friend!

Thanks for the link Nonhog.

If you'd like to support more directly to Steve there is a way.
The above web site does help Steve through the possibility of donations.
however do know it is indirect.
If anyone would like to help Steve directly they can send a check to:

Island Church (www.IslandChurch.org)
9624 Sportsman Club Road
Bainbridge Island, Wa 98110

Mark the check "Hanberg Medical" and make it out to Island Church

Just a reminder its not Steve asking if we could post this stuff. Its Silly and I
asking him, he reluctantly agreed.
info for the lazy folks who dont like to click

Hard news to read on oldgmctrucks.com that Steve (oldsub) is near the end of his journey.

Re: Steve@oldsub.com needs help

this is being posted on a few sites. May he rest in peace.

Quote:
Today I recieved a call which had me flip my truck around and race over to Harborview Hospital in Seattle. Steve or Oldsub as he's known to many around the various old car sites was currently unconscious, and I was told that it may be best to say my goodbyes today. Barring any sort of miracles, it sounds like this is the end. He had been battling cancer for some time now and succumbed to an infection of some sort. I didn't want to bother his wife to get the details as they really don't seem to matter now. What matters is we're all losing a good friend and family man.

For those of you who don't know him, he's one of the most kind hearted folks you'd meet. Whether looking at a pristinely restored GM vehicle or one with rust holes large enough to stick your foot through, he loved them all and always saw potential.

I really don't know what to say as I'm really disheartened at the news. He was like a father to me in some ways, offering good advice and listening when needed. I have a lot of respect for him. He did get to spend this christmas with his family and at least he had grown most of his beard back by now!

It's been a tough day on all of us. I also feel so much grief for his wife and kids, who've stood beside him through all of this.

I thought it best to post this for those members who called him friend and haven't heard any news in awhile. It's not my place to say, but I ask that you not contact his wife, out of respect for her grieving, unless you wish to offer condolences only.

I'm sure this isn't the appropriate forum to post this news, but I feel it best since most of the people he may have helped frequent here regularly. Maybe it can get kicked through some of his most frequnted forums before dissappearing.

Thanks for listening. May he be remembered.

Re: Steve@oldsub.com needs help

The following is an excerpt from Steve's obituary.

Steven Craig Hanberg was taken home to his Savior the morning of January 3rd, 2011, as he stared deeply and lovingly into the eyes of his devoted bride, Teri. For those present, it was a stunning and powerful example of God's infinite love and grace.

An inspiration in death, Steven was also an inspiration in life.
