I would never use Uship again . If you are on FaceBook there are independent carriers that will bid for your load , no brokers to deal with .

Type in Car Transport/ Car Hauling/Vehicle Shipping Open and Enclosed . Its a group Im signed up on in case I need a shipper and my local guy isnt available . I used UShip once to ship a K10 from a member on here in California to Ga . Once my Driver was on location to pick up my truck the Broker fired my driver and tried to jack up my price . They voided my contract hoping I would take the bait . The driver was on the phone telling me what they were planning and that it was not unusual practice . Once the Broker cancelled my contract I hired the Driver direct and gladly paid him the full amount when he arrived . Best of luck to you however you go .

My suggestion is for you to buy a trailer suitable enough in your local area. If you decide not to keep it, try to find a good enough deal to get your money back re-selling it. There have been times that I have done similar deals and made a profit to boot.

Yea the broker stories are nutty but I aren't unheard of obviously.

What town is it coming out of? I know you said it was 1300 miles away, but what I had to do when I shipped something out of WI to CA was I looked up local shipping companies in towns near to where the car was and found one that was relatively close. When I called them directly they let me know how many trucks they had and where they were planning on going over the next 30 days. One option they offered was they could pick up the car and bring it to their yard and hold onto it until a truck was scheduled to head my direction. That was going to be my choice until I got a call with Interstate that told me they were on the way to pick it up. Just odd timing.

If you do use UShip, I would recommend that you put up your truck's details and route, then instead of talking with a broker, search for shippers directly that are local to your area or to the pickup area and request that they bid on your move. 90% of them will likely decline, but a few may be willing now that the holidays are over.

Just wondering … (probably a dumb idea) … would it drive up on one of those two wheel dollies that you can rent from U-Haul ????

But you wouldn't have any brakes except the pickup.

It will fit on a dolly (not a U-Haul one, though), but it would be too heavy for it. Then, of course, there's the no brakes thing. Some dollies have brakes, but not the one I have access to.

Well, there's always just a tow bar too ….

Your 3500 probably weighs more than the C-50 anyway.

My best estimate on a truck like yours including the extra weight of the Dump Bed would be at least 9,000 Lbs, if not a good amount more. If you could remove the Stake Sides easy enough, that would help to keep the weight down. That's not a guarantee now, just my best estimate. I've driven a few across the scales.

Never had it on a scale, but I think I used to figure my 1965 C-50 with the homemade loader and log bolster and two wheel army log trailer as being about 10K empty. If that was low, then I was hauling a heck of a lot more gross than I thought I was

I figured my cab & chassis which was a shorter wheelbase (but a double frame) than yours at about 6K. I suppose your 16' dump bed could be another ton.

Like "Bill" suggested, you could take off the stake sides and put them flat in the back of your pickup. It doesn't change the total weight but puts more weight on an axle that has working brakes, plus it just makes the C-50 look smaller

A late model 3500HD is basically a medium duty truck these days; it's basically like towing like. I know the newer pickups make my 1989 K1500 look like an S-10!

I think you could do it fine as long as you took it easy, but then I'm in Montana where we get away with all sorts of stuff. Back your way the HP and POE (if you have to stop) might think differently.

I would expect your truck weighs around 9,000 empty. I live about 4 hours South of where your truck is located.

My son Noah and I could possibly drive it back to my place. You would need to get a one way trip permit or temp tag and insurance. That would allow us to access the road worthiness of the truck for the remaining leg to Florida. We could even install a GoPro so you could share some of the experience.

I appreciate the offer, but if I thought it would make it that far, I would drive it home, myself. If you (or I) got stuck on the side of the road, it would, most likely, incur a greater cost than just trailering it home to begin with. I just wouldn't want to take that risk.

I rebuilt my front brake cylinders, however I would not do it again as new cylinders are very cost effective. The new cylinders were from Rock Auto and appeared to be very good quality. Looks like your shoes are in great shape, might need to remove any oil residue with brake clean. I would also replace the master cylinder and refill with DOT 5 brake fluid. You would need to flush the system (I used brake clean) prior to converting to DOT 5.

My 2 cents.....

My 2 cents.....
Haven't got the fronts off, yet. I'm a little nervous about trying to clean the shoes, but that is my last option. As soon as we are able to safely leave our houses, I am taking the shoes to Fleet Pride to see if they have a set, and the wheel seals to our local bearing house to see if they have a match. I have new rear wheel cylinders and new flex hoses, except for the one running from below the master cylinder to the frame mount.
