Re: Period Correct Accessaries for your truck...

Remember those bag phones well. First mobile phone we had, was made by Motorola. We were on a trip from Kansas to Indianapolis, Ind. at the time. My wife called her Mom from the phone in the car while we had stopped for gas. My MIL was just in awe that she was talking to her daughter while she was sitting IN the car at a gas station.

Up in the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon you need one of these to hunt morel mushrooms. I removed it from a 71 K/10 I parted out. Manufactured by Airglide Instruments of Chicago. I listed it for sale on buy/sell yesterday.

Anyone know what the fluid medium is inside? Mineral oil?
I think I could inject some more and seal it with a dab of epoxy. They have shot up in price now.
I like a magnetic compass as a back up to the GPS.
I drilled a small hole in the top of mine, used a syringe needle to fill with baby oil. Then threaded a small screw with an O ring to seal, just incase I need to fill it again. I used the compass on my cell phone to align North on the compass. I have had it in my truck for a few months now and still seems to be working well.

Thanks for that.
I may try it. I've also been ogling 2-1/2'' aircraft compasses. The General Aviation kind that were $20 retail in 1970. About $100 on ebay now. Some are cheaper when dry.

There is this stuff called compass fluid used in aircraft compasses. I think I have some left from refilling my old plane's compass.

Does Sporty's Pilot Shop or All Aircraft Parts sell it?

Baby oil I have on hand.

c1971 -- Do you think 2 ounces is enough?
Also, I think a non-ferrous filler hole screw would avoid influencing the magnet's alignment.

Somewhere I've got the whole GMC Accessory catalog, which I'm sure others have as well, which would be interesting to post. It covers everything from spot lights to air conditioners that you could order for your GMC from the dealer.

Hat holder, gun rack, period correct key fob with 1967 War Amps key tag. Cigarette key chain is there because my dad smoked 3 packs a day. He has been gone 20+ years now. Even though I never smoked a day in my life I sometimes smell cigarette smoke while driving alone. I'm sure its old Dad.

Re: Period Correct Accessaries for your truck...

This is not really an accessory, but it's period correct. My truck was sold through Ed Randall Chevrolet in Portland, Or. Found the license plate frame that says Ed Randall, but not Chevrolet. Its on the front bumper now.

I have a couple of those wheels too. They came on a truck I bought years ago. Tim (special k) had a set of them at one time too. They are pretty neat.
