Pics of my 72. 4 years ago - today.

My dad had parked it in the field for several years. In 2008 I finally talked him into giving it to me. After new fluids, filters, battery, and a little carb cleaning we had it running.

I drove it around for a while - even towed my buddy's Ford to the shop with it.

The I decided to tear it apart. Thought it would be a quick job.

After changing jobs, moving three times, and getting married things started coming together.

All the photos I have for now, chrome, glass, and grill going in this week. Will be home in the next week or two.

Thank you! My dad had always wanted to restore it, but he never really had the time or the cash. He is super excited to see it come along. I can't wait to go for a ride with him in it when it's all done.

Somewhere I have pictures of me with this truck when I was barely old enough to walk. I'll have to get them scanned in and post them as well. This truck has a lot of personal history, indeed.

Re: Pics of my 72. 4 years ago - today.

Great story! Like someone said that green and white is great looking on this year. My G-pa had one the same colors that he kept until he was too old to drive. Wish I had the opportunity to save it back then but I didn't even know any better at the time.

And you're about a stones throw and a fart away from me. Are you keeping it on your dad's place or in one of those rent-a-shops?

Right now it's with a body shop in Pauls Valley. This Saturday it's coming home with me.

Awesome! Four years of hard work and now the payoff. I might like the shop info if you're happy with them. Assuming I get my surgery over with soon I'll be trying my own body work next summer and if I get stumped I'll need an escape I can trust. (PM'd of course)

Re: Pics of my 72. 4 years ago - today.

I will still have a little work in the interior after I get it back.

I need to refurbish the woodgrain on all the interior pieces, have the bench seat reupholstered, and I'll need to buy a new steering wheel (the current wheel is in pretty bad shape).

The chrome and lights are in. Only waiting on the glass guys for the windshields and UPS to deliver the new outer grill shell.

Nice truck and nice work on the body. Mine was that color combo when I bought it. It's RED now though!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

The guys I have on the paint and body are doing a phenomenal job. I took it as far as I could with my limited (non-existent) skills.

When I took it to the guys back in June it took two trailers to get everything to them. The bed was worked and in Z-Chrome and bolted to the frame. The frame, suspension, and drive train were all together.

The cab was in Z-Chrome. I hadn't touched the front clip or the doors.

The rest of the truck was in plastic totes and I had boxes full of bolts in baggies.

They were originally just going to do the paint and body and bolt it up. A few weeks later the guy called and said "How would you like to actually drive this thing home? I'll put it all back together for you for just a little more cash." After 4 years it was an offer I couldn't refuse.

I've been very happy with these guys indeed.

Update:
I haven't been able to get any high quality pics yet, but here are a few I snapped in my driveway.

I'm going to get some better shots in a more scenic area soon.

Haha. True. If you look close they don't match. Wheels are the next item on the to-do list.
