It's hard to imagine the economics that would drive leaving buildings you own and had invested a billion dollars in over the years.

I have been told that many companies do it for the tax breaks and tax benefits. Big amounts from what I have been told to me.

Cadillac relocated it's corp hq to New York a couple of years ago. You have to wonder what it costs the brand, long term, to make these moves. Cadillac to NY I see as big money moving into a more expensive neighborhood.

Interesting. Perhaps depreciation too. On a side, gov. Buildings big money too. I know of one who builds the best buildings, world competition. Gov. Bus. So good they primarily left private behind, beginning the housing crash. The co. Leases the buildings to gov., very long term contracts. Bs if you ask me, the gov. Doesnt deserve it, ripping off the taxpayer. They should take that building up in detroit

I used to work for a company called TRW. I averaged a different office every 6 months of my 25 year employment there. I jokingly called it, "Trading Rooms Weekly".

Re: gm reportedly moving the Detroit HQ

I guess this is what you all are talking about ...it was 6 days ago on the news

General Motors is temporarily moving its global headquarters out of the Renaissance Center in Detroit as the company works to redevelop the space.

Thought this also interesting

The Renaissance Center was the brainchild of Henry Ford II, who saw the project as a way to revitalize Detroit following the 1967 uprising. The complex cost $337 million to build, according to Free Press archives, and GM paid $73 million for it in 1996
