Hey all, imagine some part that you are really searching for. Now imagine someone having the part available for you. You make the deal, and arrange to pick up said part at a nice price.

Sounds pretty good, huh? Now imagine that you take your 1999 4X4 Suburban and your nice utility trailer and you leave work early with a friend to get this great part.

Imagine driving down the interstate at a nice even speed, weather's nice, radio's playing, and you're making good time.

Now imagine a MORON IN A POS FORD F150 PULLING DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF YOU FROM THE NEXT LANE, AND HE BASICALLY THROWS OUT AN ANCHOR AND D#@N NEAR STOPS IN FRONT OF YOU!

Well, imagine no more. I was unable to stop, and I slammed into the back of said POS. End result: whole front clip destroyed, core support radiator, air box, windshield....

Luckily the airbags didn't deploy.

My bumper went under his. To top it all off, I get a ticket for "following too closely". POS Ford owner gets a HOV lane violation. This might be the only thing that saves me as far as insurance. Did I mention the $85 tow fee..... EACH. That's right, I had to pay to have the trailer towed on the back of the rollback! So that's another $170!!
If not, then the part $100 with tip, + $1000 insurance deductable + $170 tow fees = $1270 for a cab top! I'll post pics later. Have a nice day.........

My friend and I got a ride back to his truck, and went to the tow lot, got my undamaged trailer, and finished getting the parts.

Shame, I just had the headlights/parking lights/ect... for the truck. Just sold them all for $85. on the 88-98 board... I have a nice set of innerfenderwells and I think I still have most of the stuff for the aux. battery tray & the washerfluid bottle that goes under it, not sure if you need it but it's here if you do. Came out of 99' Escalade but it's the same stuff as the 92+ Burb..

it is always worse when you are towing. I also have a 99 3/4 burb and was towing something home yesterday. Close but I was lucky

Too bad you didn't have one of those REALLY LARGE brush guards with an even BIGGER heavy bumper with an OVERSIZED winch (you get the picture) on the front so you could have recessed his bumper into the back of his cab! Now that would be custom!!!

I'd fight the ticket. It's one of you or the other. If he cut you off and hit the binders you couldn't actually have been following. I had the same thing happen a couple months back and the other guy was found at fault. This guy did it to me on purpose. It basically totaled the 72.

That just happened to me last week.A guy comes from left lane to center lane in front of me,not too crazy.But then,out of nowhere and for no reason,he stands on the brakes(no,I wasn`t tail-gating him).I jump on mine and barely avoided rear-ending him.I`m thinking it,the guy riding with me said it,"WHAT THE FU??!!!!!".It`s scarey out there,very scarey.About exactly 1 year ago,a girl in front of the truck in front of me(couldn`t see the car)did the same thing.He hit her,I hit him.About the same damage as you had.Had my tow guy on the way.Trooper gets involved,says he has to call next guy on his list(racket).They`re taking it to their yard.Yeah Right!All my tools in there for the crackheads to steel?And,how am I gettin`home?30 miles!I call my wrecker,have him meet us at next exit/Home Depot.It cost me $110 for 3 miles.Thanks Officer.Mike hooks-up,takes me home,puts the truck in his shop for the night,then loads it and takes it to the bodyman 1st thing the next morning(for 1/2 the price).And the process began.

While driveing through the Ozark Mountains, a young lady who was at a complete stop turned in front of out 2003 Tahoe just as we were anout 15 feet from her. My wife was driving at the time at the posted speed limit of 30 mph. She locked up the brakes as best as you can with antilock. We got a scratch on a Ranch Hand brush and cattle guard, the young lady lost a rear quater pannel on a Ford Bronco.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. I'm wondering if these crackpot drivers who cut people off and then stop suddenly are trying to get their own cars totaled in a rear-end collision so they can blame it on who "rearended" them. Maybe they just discovered a bad engine or some other very expensive problem that needs fixing. Plus, no blame on their driving record. Their insurance probably won't go up.

Financially speaking, its better for them to recoupe their loss in insurance money. Morally speaking, "Vengence is the Lord's." They'll eventually get what's coming to them.

Here's some pics. I guess the cool part in all this is the fact that me and a buddy are in the process of buying the body shop that the repairs are being done at.

Our jobs in the airline industry aren't what they used to be, so we are planning for our futures on our own.

The shop has a frame machine and all necessary tools to go right to work. Oh, and the estimate was over $5000.....

should be a 50/50 situation...if he slammed on the brakes then he is somewhat liable.
talk to you claims rep about it if you haven't already -

50/50 he pays 50% of your damages and you pay 50% of his damages - or the insurance company does - then yours cover's the rest

Good looking burb! Looks like a lot of damage was isolated to the front clip. Of course looks can be deceiving.

Can I make a suggestion? No BS here. You have a STRONG argument to avoid the ticket and have no liability for insurance purposes. Look at the Ford's tailights. They are some of those ridiculous Alteeza lights. You can make the arguement that they were not OEM and not very bright and effected your reaction time. Those tailights are BORDERLINE legal to begin with, and probably not DOT approved. I would say that would give you a strong battle to defend yourself.

Oh, one more key thing here- his LEGALLY REQUIRED high mounted 3rd brake light isn't working.

You have enough there to protect yourself.
