What mounts?

Planning on trying to put a 4.8/5.3/6.0 (whatever I can get best deal on) in a 7-72 shortbed truck with factory crossmember. Before I make the frame all pretty what mounts should I use and with (your recommended mounts) do I need to drill non existing holes in the frame?

Pretty much what Im sayin is if I can get a good deal on powdercoat job I dont wana be drilling on it or something crazy like that.

What mounts do you recommend any why?

Re: What mounts?

Hi, i installed a 2001 5.3 in my 68 c10. I used the 2001 mounts for these reasons. back in the day gm made crappy mounts, (remember engines cabled to the frame to prevent uncontrolled acceleration?), replacement old style mounts from my local parts stores are sourced from india and are rock hard, newer vehicles are designed to address potential noise, vibration, and harshness, (nvh), so i made upside down "u" shaped perches with a thick plate welded to the "u". The cupped 2001 mount straddles the "u", has bolts to attach the mount to the "u" and this assembly bolts to the frame. I slotted the plate for forward and aft adjustment. This has helped me in these areas; headers have room around mount, low mount gm ac compressor clears (some aftermarket adapter plates had to be ground down to clear) and my engine doesn't feel like it is ridgidly mounted to the frame. Cheap to make, and no regrets, but did take some time. This was my overall take on the whole situation as i was a dealer mechanic for about 30 years Good luck, Brian Fuller

Re: What mounts?

I used the CPP tubular stands, poly mounts and custom built adapter plates to place the engine in the appropriate location for my long tube TBSS headers. I also did add a CTSV oil pan so I won't have impact issues with the ground on my bagged '70 SWB.

Re: What mounts?

The Dirty dingo sliders may be the slickest set ....set em where you need em For mine , I already have poly mounts on the 383, & plan to use them along with a set of Carshop brackets/stock stands. The engine is not done yet (need to lap the valves, replace seals & springs), so I cannot say on the fit as yet. There are many options, just consider all the parts on the build(eng placement, exhaust, ect). Eng placement 1st, then check the fit on the rest? Have fun, Longhorn
