88 blazer floor replacement tips?????????????????????????
I just bought this blazer http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...AQ:MOTORS:1123 And it needs the floors replaced. I was thinking of useing something homemade thicker steel. for under the seats and behind the drivers seats where it is rotted. this truck is going off road mostly so I was also thinking of replaceing the inner rocker with plate steel. Any ideas would be great?

You can buy some of the patch panels aftermarket and they are not to expensive, but I'm not sure if the area where the seat belt attaches the floor is available, I had to make mine.

some one on here has replaced the foot boards for the rear seat and plated under the front seats from torn metel? any links wouuld be great.

Years ago I replaced the floors in a Peugeot station wagon. I was able to get flat sheet metal for next to nothing using an old refrigerator carcass. At that time the metal thickness on appliances was much thicker than today. If you go that route, find something pretty ancient!
I cut away the rusty damaged area, then cut my patch panels on top and secured them with truss head sheet metal screws. When done I removed the screws and screwed them back in from the bottom so the points stuck up. Then I used a torch to melt the points down to form a spot weld. A good coating of asphalt on both sides and that car served me well for years. |

the replacement panels arent very expensive and is probaly the easy way to go. Just take you time ....the rule of thumb.....measure twice and cut once. You can always trim a lil more off but its harder to put in back on. They are perfect molds of the existing floor so its easy to lay them out and get them cut right. check out some DIY sites on bodywork.

I used diamond plate on my 73.

Did you keep it as the checker plate Vegas? If you did how does it sound? I assume there is a fair bit of noise, but just wondering to what degree. I am thinking about ripping the carpet and padding out of my '86 and then herculining the floor pan.

Grant, its tolerable, when I got it there wasn't any insulation. I tossed the crappy carpet that was there. Mine isn't a DD though. When I get the cage finished I'll bedline it and put down some kind of mats.

Tolerable works for me. Mine will be a DD in the winter and only in the summer until I get an old square pick up for a low rider project. The cold will come in a little easier with the carpets being out, but I am hoping the herculiner on the inside and outside will help. Thanks for the input.
