I thought about trying Detroit Diesel gasket maker next time around on valve covers and the intake - P/N 23513509. Anyone else tried it on a gas engine wherever you would use silicone?

If you are going with a crate motor, why not go to one of the later model (96-up) vortec
350's ? ( about $2000 from Jegs or Summit) They have several improvements over the earlier design, like roller cams, one piece rear mains, and better flowing heads. I have one that I have put over 100k miles on that still doesn't leak.
