Who is brave enough to make it for me?

ok awhile back I had posted a thread about a spindle shaft that was crooked and I didnt know about it until after I bought it. I since then took the shaft out and was about to put another one in but the replacement is too small by like 25 thousandths or so. Then I came up with an idea that I could get someone brave enough that has access to a lathe and the skills to make me another shaft simply because I dont want to buy another set of drop spindles. Let me know if any of you guys are capable of making such thing. I have the shaft I took out to duplicate measurements and all.

That is a very important part of the truck. The lability issues if it were to fail are about as extreme as they come. Personally, as a truck owner, I wouldn't want to take that risk.
As a machinist I wouldn't want the liability unless I had qualified engineers and good insurance. If I had those the price I would charge you would make you run quick.

X2

I'm quite sure that that shaft has to be heat treated.I doubt that anybody here would try this.

Re: Who is brave enough to make it for me?

^^ I agree. You might be better off buying another one. I know on most vehicles the spindle shaft is cold worked high carbon steel that is heat treated after it's been machined. This is where a lot of the aftermarket chinese companies get themselves in trouble, by failing to adequately treat the metal or using poor quality metal in the first place. It may be dimensionally accurate, but it's nothing like the original.

To each their own. That is why we have our own trucks. I still think about lowering mine in the future. Never know.

Re: Who is brave enough to make it for me?

What brand of spindles do you have? do you need a right or left? I have a single drop spindle at the shop, and I can't remember which side it is.... I will sell it to you CHEAP if you can use it.

Re: Who is brave enough to make it for me?

Buy some new spindles from a quality manufacture rather than having someone turn one out. Spindle stubs are forged, heat treated, and then ground to dimension, they are NOT just a turned piece of steel. Remember that this one part must support half of the weight of the front axle, plus the forces of any potholes, speedbumps, drainage dips, plus any debris you may not see in the road. It is just not worth it to risk your pride and joy (not to mention the life of all those in the truck when they break) to save about three hundred bucks.
