project parts truck

i have been parting out 67 72 trucks for about 10 years now and i have sold tons of parts on this board now its time to build one. i have realized that these trucks are getting hard to find with little to no rust. so i am going to start building a few of the good ones i find so i started looking for a good cab i found a 1 ton 157 wheel base truck with very little rust so i am going to use the cab and build a short bed 1/2 ton nice driver with cold air lower it 5/7 with 20 inch torq thrust

Re: project parts truck

Cool truck.
I would have liked to had it as a 1-ton truck.

Re: project parts truck

well i have talked myself out of the patina look so i am going to get it ready to paint, i bought some goodmark inner and outer rockers they did not fit at all so i got some from gmc pauls. the rockers from them are tri plus they fit great. its easy to line up the doors when you have rust free gm doors.
i think i am going to paint it the same color and leave the original paint on the inside. i have ordered my lowering kit c notch a trailing arm cross member, i hope to get the frame painted soon.

Re: project parts truck

Looking good. I've found everything but inner door bottoms to be great from Triplus/keyparts. Have had hit or miss success with goodmark/tabco/others....

Re: project parts truck

well i have got one of the top running lights shaved one rocker in. i still need to get the firewall shaved and one cab corner done. i got the frame almost all the way down. i have ordered most of the lowering parts so i am going to try to get the frame painted soon. i was going to buy a complete new bed but i have some real nice 67 bedsides so i guess i will use them and buy a new floor i have almost all the body parts now i just need time to work on it..

Re: project parts truck

When drilling out spot welds do you drill through both layers of the sheet metal, or just through the first layer to free the part that needs replaced?

Re: project parts truck

just go through the first layer then the metal your welding back to doesnt have a bunch of holes in it.. i use a spot weld cutter that looks like a small hole saw you can buy them at habor feright for about 7.00 and they work just as good as the 25.00 ones from any were else
