Re: Who's on 454ss wheels?

There really needs to be an aftermarket source for these rims. Or is there?

Anything over $300 and you really need to want them.
Or you're like me, and your tires are getting frighteningly bald. There was a set for sale maybe ten minutes away from me for months...Then, when I got ready to pull the trigger, they were gone. Now it seems like every set is very pricey and over an hour away.

There's not, but there should be. I wish somebody like Year One would make a replica in 17" or 18".

Re: Who's on 454ss wheels?

8" wide would be great too. Actually that's the only reason I haven't pursued a set already, I'd like them a touch wider or deeper.

Had to come back and correct this...the ones that LMR sells are only 2" and the space on these caps is just a hair over 2.5"...so I found another source for them here. With these you can choose your size; I went with a 2.5" which should cover up the GMC and almost completely cover the original black part in the middle of the cap. I went with the black/red further down the page, without the red circle.

Hopefully I'll be able to add some pics here in a few days...I've got NOS caps coming from ebay, and I'm still polishing my OOS wheels...that's Old Old Stock, in case you were wondering, as in sitting in a field next to some demo derby cars

Re: Who's on 454ss wheels?

i have been wanting a set of these every since i bought my truck, but man they are very expensive in my area.people think they are made out of gold around here.when i find them they usually run around $400+ and i think that is steep for a set of factory wheels.maybe i will run up on a set when i am least expecting it.lol

I like the wheels, but for some reason they look better on stock height trucks than lowered, They just don't look right with out some fender clearance.

New shoes -- 275/60 BFGs. I'm loving the new look.

Sorry for the blurry pic, I was in a hurry. This is with 1" drop coils/2" shackles. I've got the spindles and hangers waiting in the garage, so eventually it will come down another 2" at all four corners.

You get the drop on it JB and it will be right. Just something about a white Silverado or GMC with the trim, chrome wheels that's just classy.

Re: Who's on 454ss wheels?

910506, I like the second truck, but (for some strange reason, lol) I actually like the look of your old truck more...the trim, the bumpers, the tint, the black handles and mirrors...and I've even thought about putting the factory fog lights on mine. That was one sharp ride. You had those wheels for sale on CL recently, right? I thought about taking them off your hands, but I really had my heart set on the sport wheels.

There's a nice set of these on the Nashville CL right now. Asking $400.

Re: Who's on 454ss wheels?

Brent, you'll appreciate this story...the wheels I got were on CL too, listed out in Pulaski. No pics, but the seller said they were in decent shape (thought his voice sounded vaguely familiar on the phone) and I went out there to take a look. Well, I follow the GPS to this guy's place, and I mean it's out in the sticks for real...go past the middle of nowhere, turn left and go a little farther. I was afraid I was gonna run out of gas because I didn't see a station for about 25 miles at one point. Passed an Amish buggy with one single lantern on it, in pitch black nighttime. Finally get to this guy's shop, and there's an old C30 with firewood for sale, and about six or seven demo derby cars sitting around. The guy comes out to meet me, and he's got his Carhartt on with the hood up, and it's really dark out. We look at the wheels by flashlight for a couple minutes, then take them up to the shop to look at them under the light. That's when I realized it was Tommy from Musclecar on Spike TV. He was really cool; before I recognized him I asked him if I'd inconvenienced him by meeting him when I did (it was about 6:30 on a Saturday night). He said no, that he'd been in the shop all day, was gonna go get some dinner, then come back and work some more.

Anyway, I got my wheels and a story. You really never know what you'll get on craigslist

Re: Who's on 454ss wheels?

Ha, that's awesome. What a cool story. Did you get to sneak a peek at any of his projects while you were there? I met Stacey David about this time last year at a Christmas party. He's a super nice guy.

A lot of people complain about the CL. There are a lot of flakes on there, but I've had mostly good experiences and met some pretty cool people. I sold this one guy a trailer axle that I had taken off of my trailer when I was in the landscaping business. About a year and a half later I posted a mid-eighties truck rearend with leaf springs. This guy came to look at it and after a few minutes we figured out he was the same guy that bought the axle. About 9 months later I found the leaf hangers and tracked the guy down to see if he wanted them, so he came back and got those too. I sold another guy a set of wheels for his 71 and we still email back and forth some. I've sold him a few other parts since then, too.

Re: Who's on 454ss wheels?

No projects, he just seemed to be heavy into the derby scene. And he was building a new shop behind the old one, which he said belonged to his dad.

Yeah, I've had pretty good experiences on craigslist, and the ones that aren't, at least they usually make for pretty funny stories! Have you seen this thread?
