Educate me on the Insta-trac 4x4 system.

I am referencing this truck which i might purchase. 70,000 original miles.

I know I can switch to 4x4 on the fly but ... if the roads are wet - will this system operate ok?

Thanks

As long as all the tires are spinning the same speed, the tires are the same size,, there will be no issue. If the tires are different and are spinning at different speeds, the front axle will grind when the actuator locks the front axle

Except you don't want to be spinning one or both rear wheels when you try to shift anything into 4wd. Back off the gas first and don't shift into 4wd while turning a corner.

Re: Educate me on the Insta-trac 4x4 system.

Huh? I've never seen rain cause a need for 4wd. You don't even need 4wd half the time your off road. How can heavy rain cause a loss of traction that a light rain doesn't? Wet is wet as far as the tire and grip is concerned. If your hydroplaning then 4wd isn't going to help you steer.
As for the 4wd system, its a super basic setup. It just goes into 4wd. Not sure what problems you would anticipate having?
