Tail Light Issue

Hey everyone,

I have an issue with my '71 Blazer. Putting the finishing touches on a AAW rewire kit and tossed in a battery to test things out...

When press the brakes the left tail light only shows as bright as the running lights would show. Right tail shows correct full brightness.

However this is reversed when I turn on the headlights - the left shows full brightness as if the brakes were pressed, and the right shows half (running light) brightness.

Is this a ground issue?

Blinkers, headlights, and reverse lights all work (though the reverse ligths come on in Drive, not R, but i think i need to adjust the NSS to fix this).

Thanks in advance!

Thumbs up Re: Tail Light Issue

More than likely yes a grounding issue. The rear tail lights ground through the housing with the 2 screws that hold it in place. Make sure you clean a good spot for metal to metal. Quick way to see is put a wire to the housing and to the frame see if it lights up.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Tail Light Issue

On non restoration trucks I like to add a ground wire from the frame to tail light housings.

Re: Tail Light Issue

To close the loop...

After more troubleshooting it actually turned out to be the bulbs. I had no idea there was a wrong way to put bulbs into the socket! But after looking at the bulbs the two knobs/pins that you use to lock/twist into place are slightly offset from each other and I had the left bulb in wrong which meant it wasn't seating fully in the socket.

Anyways I'm all set now!
