I got a plastic underdash mount for no knob stereos,i bought it at one of the big stores WalMart Kmart or something, its black mounts under the dash think it was like $10-its a nice frame for a deck you could mount anywhere on your roof, under your dash,seat,console-but id make it easy to reack under the seat or in glovebox sounds like a real pain in the arsehole.I got a nice Kenwood tape deck that fits the truck nice,i just thought about addaing a CD changer in my console box, then some amps under the seat, couple 10's behind the seat some mids and tweets,a trunk could sound pretty good easily its a small space, but probably need to lose the gas tank for big speakers, heck make it humb how about a couple 18's in the back!!!!

i installed mine in the glove box on my gto, cuz i did't want to cut the dash and cuz with a ragtop it stayed a lot cleaner and drier behind the door. you wouldn't believe how much dust gets in my fair weather only friend. i hate operating it though, just listen to whatever comes on or plays next.

why regret it fixing would be no different than any other body work sure be a helluva lot easier then doing rockers or cab corners mine was cut when I got it so I just slapped a new deck in and a changer under the seat I would only change back if I got one of those decks with the chevy bowtie on the doorflap hehehe

I'm with Desert Rat - mouned under the dash. You can buy a plastic enclosure from Crutchfield that mounts really nice below and to the right of the steering column. Works well, out of site and surprisingly is not in the way, although you would think it was by looking at it. Very good alternative.

Don't cut it!

Imagine if the original owner had cut a big hole to install his 4-track player. I bet you'd really wish THAT hole wasn't there.

I'd really consider getting a reproduction original that can play CD's. Then you aren't cutting holes, have a good looking factory-style radio, and can still plan CD's.

Probably costs a small fortune, but a wise investment in my book.

Question I have is do you regret it now? Do you wish you hadn't cut it? That is what I am trying to decide right now. The original part of me want to leave it as is, and install a factory radio in there, then use a CD changer. But the more modern me want to cut it and install an up-to-date CD player.

I have also thought about making a custom little box to install the CD player in the glove box instead. What are your guys opinions?

Any pics of custom setups?

Thanks!

So whats with resurecting 7 year old threads? Instead of setting your forum options to only show threads in the last year do you have it to only show 7 year old thread?

Hmmm, I just found where you can do it. This is odd because I didnt think you used to be able to go back that far...kinda cool.

Seems like you could mount one with a custom bracket using the existing holes below the dash. The spot where some mount a CB Radio. You might even make it a quick realease(unplug) to stash it under the seat when parked.

Good Gravy, I didn't even bother to look at original post date. Guess that dash is probably already cut.

It would be much easier to start a new post on the subject. Folks come and go, and tastes change. Old threads are great ref tools, but bringing them to the top over and over usually will not get you as much information as just asking a new question.

I have a 71 and yes I cut the dah. What is the big deal? You have modified the engine, wheels, tires, transmission everything under the sun has been modified one way or another. Cut it and enjoy. Just my 2 cents worth.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Those who cut dash for a CD player, I have questions.

A thread back from the dead!

The previous owner of mine cut the dash(did a good job too) and cut a spot for 6x9's in the doors - so at this point why not take it to the next level!

I have some speakers from my old subaru and am using them. Polk db components in the dash with both 5-1/4's next to each other free air under the stock grill and am flush mounting the tweeters just behind the dash pad so they reflect up off the windshield. I have some Polk mmc690's for the doors and am planning on running (4) 6-1/2" Tang Band subwoofers in some boxes I will make under the bench seat if there isn't enough low end...I am undecided on the headunit and amps at this point but it will sound great regardless!
