Cross sill pic request

Does anyone have a decent picture of what they know to be an original '67-'72 Stepside rear cross sill?

Re: Cross sill pic request

Still can't see it but looking in the bed pics, is it the area just to the right (in the pic) of the bed bolt spacer? If so, maybe where the original liscense plate bracket went.

Didn't the plate bracket always go in the middle of the bumper itself?

Re: Cross sill pic request

If it is bumper delete, it bolts to the bottom of the rear sill.

Re: Cross sill pic request

Could it be for a muffler/tailpipe hanger, only on drivers side...is there a prize if I get it right?

Re: Cross sill pic request

Your right woodridge the license plate bracket went there when no bumper was installed. Had some free time and looked thru my Factory Assembly Instruction Manual and found this page showing it.

Re: Cross sill pic request

I am not sure what it was meant for, but it is also present on the fleetside beds with wood bottoms. I know the little hole just above the kick out area in question is for a clip to hold the wiring in place. WES

My '86 has it also, liscense plate bracket with light. Never noticed it on my '70 short step.

Re: Cross sill pic request

came up last night putting a stepper together for a local cop....even after a couple Buds we noticed the A/M rear cross and the original looked different. We couldn't find anything to bolt to it on his truck (except possibly a blue plastic "Saca De Toro") so we figured we'd try to find out what it is

LOL...IF it were a bigger issue we would also want to let the manufacturer know of the difference.

I forget where I bought mine but you can get one from Wes at Classic Heartbeat http://www.classicheartbeat.com/books,_vidio,_cds.htm he lists it as 67-72 Factory Assembly Manual. From what I understand you can also get it on CD talk to Wes. I will let you know that the manual that I have has no index to find things so you just have to go thru it page by page to find what you want.
