1972 Blazer CST for sale... Questions from newbie - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hello.

I'm new to this forum, and need an expert opinion. I have a chance to purchase a '72 blazer CST from my uncle, and need to get an idea what is a fair price for this truck.

It's a 4wd, 85K miles, 350 auto, a/c, and in almost perfect unrestored condition. He's owned it since '81; he purchased it in the California desert. Both tops, desert cooling, 40 gallon tank, etc... Copper in color. It's very clean, and still has line inspection "OK" chalk marks and dates on the firewall.

We're negotiating a price, and I don't know what it's worth, as you rarely run across unrestored trucks in this condition. And no, this isn't a fish story...

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I bought my 1972 cst blazer (happens to be the same color as your uncles) from the original owner in 1992. It was always in AZ and had 89k miles,350/auto, original paint, top had never been off, ac, ps, pb, aftermarket cruise, am/fm, tach, tilt, highlander interior(front seats needed covers). It had new tires and drove well. I paid $5000 in 1992. The truck had pin holes in the drivers rocker and the tailgate was bent from the tire mount on the gate. It needed paint badly. Not sure what original blazers are bringing now though, I just don't see any.

Yeah, that's the problem I'm having with putting together an offer. He hasn't given me a price, and I don't want to pay too much. I also don't want to low-ball him, for obvious reasons...

The truck isn't perfect, and the line is there if it should be left alone or restored. The original paint shines nicely, but it was driven, so it does have small rock chips and a few scratches, etc... The body is totally beautiful though, with all original panels, so it would be an easy re-finish. I've had a number of cars, and they're only original once. I like original, so I'd more than likely just leave it alone...

In your area, a 1st gen with no rust & all the original equipment would be worth a stack of cash. Do a search on collector car trader to get a ballpark idea of what they're going for.

Not to sound greedy, but take advantage of the fact that he's family. Don't cheat him, but try to see what would be fair for both of you. I've heard of K5's going for $15000 on ebay.

Just don't trash it if he gives you a great deal on it. And don't turn around & sell it for quadruple what he sold it to you for. I would almost give something to family, but if they turned around & sold it that would be the last thing they ever got from me.

Even with family, you shouldn't have to come up with a price - he should put out the first price and then you can respond. Sure sounds like a nice one. I looked at one pretty seriously about 2 1/2 years ago and worked him down to $2,550.00 - it had a bit of rust but wasn't in too bad of shape. I still kind of wish I hadn't passed on it, but took alot of peoples advice that one project is alot easier to tackle than two.

No, no... He and I are going to remain friends after this deal. And no, I'm a car guy, so I don't trash stuff.

I've just never been into trucks, and in this instance, I'm looking at this as being something fun to have, because it's a convertible, somewhat rare, has some nice options, and I wouldn't have to do much to it besides check the brakes to enjoy it.

I've looked at traderonline, etc., and the problem becomes that I've not seen any untouched trucks out there to compare it with. I'm thinking that someone on this board may be aware of any trucks that have changed hands recently that would be comparable...

Do you know where these prices come from? Also, any idea of how recent they are?

I'd say ask him what he'd like to get for it, I had the same situation when I bought my truck (nowhere near perfect condition though), my Old lady's grandpa was selling, I asked what he wanted, he shrugged his shoulders... said something like 'a couple hundred bucks', It ended up with me saying, "well, are you talkin' $200 or $800 or what?" he said "sure".

????

He later said $200 knowing that I have every intention of not selling it for more than I paid him for it, he wants to come by and see every now and then too.
shoot him two numbers one which is obviously too low, and one just the opposite... If he doesn't give you an all out answer, his response should give you a better idea of where to start.

I have drug it around all over the country in pieces. Finally back on the road in 2021. "I can't complain, but sometimes I still do. Life's been good to me so far."
