I installed my frame mounted brake pedal/booster set up. I think this is right. All of the holes lined up here. I was lucky as I filled a lot of the holes before I remembered that I needed to install my pedal set up. There were no instructions so I tried to use common sense. You know how that can go....Let me know if this does not look right to anyone.

I also treated the lower third of the body and rear wheel wells with POR15. I plan to seam seal then coat the same areas with raptor liner which is kind of like a spray on bed liner.

I also removed the rear brace and will start planning my gas tank solution.

On to the pics

Marc,
Did you have any clearance issues with the master cylinder now that you have your transmission and exhaust in? I'm looking at the CPP kit which is similar physical size to the one you got. How far does the lowest point of the booster/master extend below the frame rail or inward? If you can help me with those two measurements I can figure out if it will work with my set up. I really want to avoid a master on the firewall.

Btw, Your burb is looking awesome.

No real clearance issues. We did have to kick the exhaust down on the driver side to give more room between the exhaust and the master cylinder. My measurements wont do you any good because I used a Wilwood proportioning valve with e bracket. This is the lowest and most inward item.

Thank you
Marc

A few pis of the fenders and running boards that I coated. I matte cleared the front fenders so all that is left is the hood, doors and Body. The last pic was just to get an idea of how it will look laid out.

It's outstanding quality work and like anything you pay for quality. The way I look at it, I didn't have to barrow a trailer, load the chassis and haul it to someone else to work on and then repeat. There is a cost in my time as well which is being saved.

I hope you dont think I was picking on it, I would really like to do a super detailed truck but my patience and my wallet wont tolerate it. I love how detailed you make your trucks.

No not at all....I always wanted a detailed chassis. Selling my 48 affords me to buy what I want and have zero guilt. I hear you on patience. I struggle with that myself at times. I want this on the road, but there is a process. This build is so much nicer in many areas than my 48 but 99% of the people wont see it that way.

Thanks for looking...

Marc

I know right. I have had a vision in my head for some time now but I sure would like to see it in reality to convince myself that it will look as I want it to. After the exhaust the body will go on. Then it will look like something (I think)

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

A little more progress on the exhaust. Next up installing o2 bungs and finish welding. We (Josh) have most of the heavy lifting done. The rest will be pretty straight forward. I ordered up a few more SS isolators. I'm digging the placement of the mounts. I will snap some pics once in place. I also worked on finalizing my driveline angles with the help of Nate from Porterbuilt. I used Delrin for my trans
and carrier bearing spacers which is a dense very hard plastic. Its easy to drill and lighter than a hunk of metal. I have been focusing on a bunch of little stuff like painting up the driver shaft. Just stuff that is needed prior to the body going on.

My friend/coworker Vic stopped by to check out my project. Vic has about 9-10 cars and trucks. All varying conditions/styles. He drove his (real) patina 55 BBW truck...

Thanks
Marc

That looks great. One question though. Your master cylinder looks to be very close to your exhaust. Are you concerned about heat soaking the master cylinder?

Thanks. No I'm not concerned for a couple reasons. 1 the exhaust looks closer in the pics. 2. We actually kicked the exhaust down and out of the way under the master cylinder. It hard to see but if you look close toward the top of exhaust you can see where each side steps down slightly.

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

I received a small Summit order today. One item I purchased was an Optima battery. I got it installed this evening. I purchased a nice 0 gauge battery cable kit from American Autowire. The batter box was purchased off eBay. Pretty happy.

Disclaimer....I realize my body it still not mounted. I'm trying to get as much done prior to the body going on while I wait on the exhaust.

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

Looking good! I've been running Optima's for years, but I've been having trouble with their batteries having bad cells lately. Some folks on the web are saying it's because they moved manufacturing to Mexico, but I haven't researched it enough to know if that's true or not.

Yeah that's exactly right. My friends that own the hotrod shop use a lot of optima's and they said the same thing about the cells and the move of the manufacturing location. Using a battery tender is a must with an optima.

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

Well I worked on finishing the outsides of the doors. I can say I think I'm starting to get the hand of it. The doors are done ans sealed with matte clear. Because I liked how the doors turned out I think I'm going to further sand Parts of the body to achieve a similar result. i have enjoyed getting the hang of using an airbrush again....The outside of the body is all that is left.

On to the pics||||||||||

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

Don't get it twisted, it might look rusty on the outside but here is an example of the satin painted backside of one of the doors. I really like the interior contrast with that of the weathered exterior.

Thank you
