Question about how many were built

I live in socal and I see alot of our favorite old chevys driving the roadways year round, but I hardly ever see any GMC suburbans, just chevys. Was there alot less GMC subs built?

I believe the records for GMC were destroyed in a fire. I think it is accepted as 1/3 as many Chevs. I may be wrong but I read this somewhere, probably here. Michael
