Re: How to hook up HEI

yeah i read where you said it was fried. i just thought that would be a good place to start since they made the thing. could be some additional timing settings, and so forth that need to be considered. here's something else i found off that same website.

Re: How to hook up HEI

One is for ignition and the other goes to the tach if equipped.

There should be 3 wires (some have 4) coming from the base of the HEI that plugs into the cap. The most outward connectors on the cap are for ignition and the tach.

Re: How to hook up HEI

That distributor was converted. I bet theres no module at all. Those wires coming out are for the magnetic pickup to trigger the msd box. I doubt theres a module inside that distributor. Thats not the normal way to hook up an msd box. Someone went way too far for no reason and it probably has something to do with you cooking the box.

Re: How to hook up HEI

So with a stock GM HEI distributor this is what you would do? I don't see the coil in this picture...where is the coil?

Found this on page 16 of the ignition box instructions.....

Re: How to hook up HEI

This doesn't help with the problem at hand...but what is the purpose of the MSD box? (what does it do)

main purpose of msd ignition is increase volts to the spark wich is good for power and better mpg. multiple spark for a longer duration during your compression stroke

Re: How to hook up HEI

I think I'm reading this wrong....is the thing I was talking about a points system? I have never broken into a distributor before so I'm getting confused....is page 16 showing how to set up a box to a stock GM HEI distributor?
