69 K10 with Factory 396

Found this on eBay. A 69 K10 with a factory 396, short bed, turbo 350. So I messaged him with the usual "GM didn't make any 67-72 4wd trucks with a factory big block. He replied that 6 of these were special ordered with a 396 for the GM District Reps to drive. See the pics. Also said he was a GMC dealer for years and knew the previous owner.

"The gold standard"

Salesman usually know nothing except what a mis informed owner tells them.

Get the facts straight. If it was one of 5, there would be prof by documentation.

So I guess 67 isn’t included in the “Gold Standard”??? Looks like total BS to me.

At least it still has its coveted original factory ordered squarebody rally wheels..

I have to agree with Ken, feels a little like a pandemic of BS lately...
Unfortunately, it only takes one sucker to make it worth a dishonest seller's while to weave these ridiculous tales. It's a buyer beware world. (or, just be a member of a good forum and check there before buying )

Ya know, I was just watchin Overhaulin a few min ago, and Chip and whatshisface were inspecting a newer Shelby as the "federal trademark police" and Chip was walking around the car circling all the flaws that proved the car was not a real Shelby with a big red marker while the sad owner watched. I think I could enjoy that job. "Jocko, the Super Inspector..." has a nice ring to it...

Another note: I have never heard of a "GM district rep". If this truck was built, it was an engineers play toy and would have been scrapped before it would ever be offered to anyone for sale. Myself as well as my entire family have time at GM. My father and myself both worked at GM Proving Grounds in Milford, MI. I like to think I have a little knowledge on the process. In my time there, I helped build a 1998 short wide with a 502. It was built to test axle twist and that is all it was built for. The engineers use to fight about who drove it home on the weekend. The truck was scrapped/crushed after the test was finished.

Re: 69 K10 with Factory 396

This is getting crazy. A guy on a group was selling a 70 that was “all original” but had a cab that had the hand brake. I called him out and he tried saying the previous owner installed the hand brake. Then he complained to Admins and got me banned.

This guy here is the same kinda douche. Ask to see the spid.

Did they custom-order the stepped moldings, too? Look carefully, and they step up as you go from front to back.

"Glove box is not readable" and there's "no paperwork". Couple of red flags right there.....

Re: 69 K10 with Factory 396

I have one thing to say about this claim, "Documentaion required"

Were the engine and transmission "overhauled" OR "rebuilt"? No such thing as overhauled/rebuilt. It's one or the other ya douche bag salesman

The quality of the obvious restoration, or "creation", is an issue by itself. The typical put together to sell or put together without knowledge to do it right. A one of 5 rare exception should have been restored to original specs. Base coat/clearcoat is a big failure here, followed by lack of emblems and it doesn't even have a correct transfer case? Not much effort into doing it correctly.

I wonder what came first, putting this creation together or the story

I knew a GMC rep, I guess for this region(?), in the later '70s. He always had the coolest nicest brand spankin' new trucks. Never had them long, like just a week or two. That is how far the "perks" went with vehicles. GM would never built these trucks for rep. First of all, they don't "rep" what is available. Why show people what they can't have????

Doesn't look like a bad truck. Just be straight with what it really is.

I have proof my '67 project is a one of one all GM build. I am the one who actually gathered all the parts and they are all factory parts from various years. It's the only one exactly like it

The sad part is somebody will probably pay the big money for what he is claiming...... People want it to be true so bad that they start believing it.

Re: 69 K10 with Factory 396

I truck like the owner describes would be worth a lot more than $50K with just the thinnest thread of documentation, but he has none!

I'm pretty sure it would have had the 400 Turbo behind the big block and, let's face it, a district rep would have gotten a car rather than a truck, or at least a 2WD. My thoughts, anyhow.

But that would have required GM to do something they didn’t do in the 67-72’s and put a 4x4 turbo 400/205 in this truck... oh wait I forgot they put a 396 in in this one so I’m sure they could have to have come up with a very limited production turbo 400/205 setup too... It’s a good thing this site is here to help as many people as possible educate themselves on these trucks. I’ve got a feeling that the BS trucks are only going to get worse in the future. Pretty soon we’re probably gonna be seeing all original factory built LS trucks.... and I’m not talking the LS9 350.

Great comments, exactly what I thought. Never had a T350 behind a big block....just to start with. Getting the info out is important.
