Got summer?

Man the weather here has been almost completely craptastic. We get a few days sprinkled in that are decent, mostly its just a little bit warmer drizzle or rain. C'mon summer, you can do it!!!

I live in the desert. It's been hotter than a stolen pistol here. My air conditioner has been running night and day. My next electric bill is going to be a fun one.

But I'm sure that I've got nothing on the folks in Phoenix. I've been there. Now that's hot.

It's been pretty hot here for the last week. 89º today, 93º tomorrow, 88º Thursday, 90º Friday, and on and on. And no rain. That is unusual for Iowa to stay that hot. We are going to have to water the garden and my Peach trees tonight.

87º in the shade, and no shade out in the front yard, moving 2 yards of pea gravel into the "planter"- our parkway, which isn't planted. Unless those pebbles are seeds for big rocks. Near the end, one of my neighbors took pity on the old man leaning on a tree holding his sore back and did about an hour's worth of work for no money (I offered). CG, If you want, I can send you some of those rocks after they've heated up a bit.

Re: Got summer?

Almost 6PM here. 63 and drizzle/rain. Forecast calls for two more days of rain mid 60's to 70 degrees. Goes crazy on Friday and Saturday mid 70's maybe 78? Oops more rain after that and mid 60's.

Our forecast does change frequently so these might vary some ... Probably more rain lol.

We have had cooler weather here in Idaho.. the first year we moved here it was 108 on July 4th ,it was in the low 90ies I believe this year.

Re: Got summer?

Summer was taking it's time coming to this area. We were having beautiful not too hot, not too humid weather until last week. Nights cooled down enough that my house stayed cool all day with windows closed, no fans running. For about a week now we have seen 90*+ every day. Day before yesterday it was hotter than the hinges of hell. I couldn't take it and got an air conditioner out for downstairs. Our air, rather than out of the old predominant NW is coming out of the SW, moist tropical air from the Gulf of Mexico. YUK!

It can stay not too bad here right up to the solstice. But the backside comes along and the old saying "Hotter than the 4th of July" proves it's meaning. We have entered into the time of year who's purpose is to make us look forward to cold weather.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All winter around here you can hear people saying "I hate the cold. I'd much rather be hot. You have to bundle up in clothes or freeze. You can't stay still or you'll freeze". All summer you'll hear people say "I hate the heat. I'd rather be cold. You can't even get cool stripping naked. I'm sweating standing still"

Pretty much the same thing on the east side too, except for the rain and drizzle. High temps have only been in the 70 and 80's.
And the wind starts blowing every afternoon around 3-4pm, around 20-25 mph
The highest temp over here this summer has only been in the low 90's

Same here, my wife and I were talking about how we finally had our first real spring in years, and a long one at that. Last year, we literally had like a week of spring weather then 90's from May through september. We're even +22 INCHES of rain for the year.

I spent the whole holiday weekend burning all the old 2x4's that held the garage roof tarps on and other scraps, a huge pile of branches, massive weed eating, mowing, and pressure washed the lower half of the house. I was pretty exhausted saturday afternoon around 5, I was like, damn, I feel really old today, sweating like crazy, humid as all get out... I pull out my phone and the "feels like" temp was 102*. Ah. So it was stupid hot out. Not quite that old yet

Re: Got summer?

We're well into our summer weather here in Northern Utah, much similar to what GOPAPA said.

We had a couple weeks of nice 70* weather, then it jumped to the 90s, then we had a weird storm two weekends ago that dropped us into the 60s - so it was a bit all over the place in June.

Now that I've finally started putting in my sprinkler system in the backyard it's been steady in the 90s. A few years back I would've complained about it, but now that I've been able to get going on this project I'm taking advantage of every day!

Re: Got summer?

I put a new roof on my front porch last week. It has only seen a passing shower for a few minutes so far. That same passing shower here dumped 6" on another part of the state about an hour from here.

It’s funny how the summer storms often come in over the Blue Ridge being relatively tame and then turn into severe storms with tornadoes and all by the time they get to the beltway or closer toward the bay. I’m glad I’m coming home in September this year. The last few it’s been May-August and hot as hell every time. I’m not near as used to the humidity the longer I’m out here. It kicks my ass pretty good anymore.

Re: Got summer?

Our AC decided to give up the ghost Sun and we just got it back up and running this morning. Temps have been hovering right at 90* so it's not been a pleasant start to summer. On a brighter note I'll be heading down to the SETN show in Lebanon, Tn. Fri where the temps are supposed to be 90 or so and me without AC in Old Red.

So I spent 18 months at Fort Lewis WA. Two kinds of weather, rain and going to rain.
Today in sunny MN 93 degrees and high humidity. Better for the rest of the week.

Re: Got summer?

We say that in MD, too. In the mid-Atlantic we get the leftovers. Our weather can come anywhere from Alberta to from the Pacific off of Mexico. Or, we can get an Easterly flow coming in off the Atlantic and it's murky damp drizzly and rainy for days. but we also get into a drought from time to time. We have had winters with no snow to winters with several 18-36" snows.

Yeah Tyler, I know what you mean about 'coming back' to the humidity from the arid SW. The hot summer is not the time to do it. In October it was nice to return. And tornados, I've noticed La Plata or Cheverly seem to get most of those popping up. Both are below the fall-line, where the tidal region begins. The Chesapeake Bay is a major geographical feature in a tiny state. And not that far to mountains and the Great Appalachian Valley between two ranges. lots of major features to influence the weather. Yesterday at 5pm it was 90* in this central region with a heat index of 97* in Frederick all the way to Hancock (great valley). Up in the NW tip of the state in Garrett County (mountains) it was 75* with a heat index of 75*. At Ocean City it was 82* with a heat index of 89* in this postage stamp of a state

Re: Got summer?

Yup. Summer has finally landed on us down here. Low to mid 90s right now with upper 90s next week. Meanwhile we get random showers in between the sunny temp rising hours. Humid and hot is the word these days. Too damp to mow until mid day then the heat is on. But let me be clear, I do not miss winter!

My sister who lives in Russelville is really feeling the humidity ..I offer for her to come stay us ..but she wont come stay with me a week or so to get away from it .. Is that bescause Arkansas's motto is that you have everything in the state to get by with no out side help? laugh! laugh !
