Found my grandfathers 71 gmc

This is for the people who have been following my search
and for those who do not have FB

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone has been doing great
If you all remember I was hell bent on finding my grandfathers old truck that was sold when I was a lot younger, I found my grandfathers 1971 gmc a few months ago. I’m really wanting to buy it back eventually when they’re wanting to sell

It took me 9 years to locate the truck

Will update when and if they do decide to sell

Fingers crossed that the day comes that I can bring it back into the family

I have found some old photos of the truck from years ago

Yes, very determined to get it back. The truck itself means

How in the world did you find it? I want to find my '71 RS Camaro (my first car), but have no idea how to even start as I do not have the VIN.

Re: Found my grandfathers 71 gmc

How I found it?, literally by word of mouth.
I contacted the current owners and asked them if they owned a 71 gmc
and they said yes, and then I asked if the vin matches and sure enough
It matches!!!

I’d literally give my kidney for the truck, that’s how much it means to me

Pictures? I’ll post some

Here is what she looks like currently

So happy to see it in great condition

I pray every single day, that I’ll get a call asking if I wanna buy it

It looks pretty good. I hope he loves it less than you and is willing to sell it. I'm hoping for ya.

Re: Found my grandfathers 71 gmc

I believe it even has the Original dealer documents dating back to my great grandfathers ownership when he purchased it brand new

I sure do love this truck, it may sound weird but
It’s a kind of love that it reminds me of my grandfather and
The good times we had when I was a very small child

Ask the current owner if he/she is open to looking for another truck that you could purchase and make a trade with them.

I don’t want to seem like I’m harassing them. They’ve been very kind to me
but I’d give anything to drive that truck and bring it back home

All in due time

That's a really good strategy, especially if they're not particularly attached to it.

But I totally get this too. Very respectful. It sounds like you have articulated your feelings and connection to this truck very well. I'd be surprised if they forget about you when the time comes...

Reminds me of a thread on here from a couple years ago. Guy got to know the owner of a certain truck. Over time, became friends. One day the offer to buy came to him...

edit: Here's the thread I was referencing. Cool story.

And kudos to your perseverance! It's clear that your grandfather meant the world to you.

Man that’s awesome that you found it, I remember how hard you were trying to track it down several years ago. Good work!

Re: Found my grandfathers 71 gmc

9 years? You could have built a heck of a tribute GMC and have already made new memories in IT! My sister is overly nostalgic so I understand the draw.

Re: Found my grandfathers 71 gmc

That may be true but still. I had a 71 gmc Custom and was going to make it the same as my grandfathers but decided to buy his 1959 gmc instead and work on it

I’ve been building his old 59 gmc currently

Re: Found my grandfathers 71 gmc

Throwing out an idea here.

But instead of buying it, and leaving them stuck with having to find another one. Why not offer to trade them another truck in exchange. This way you take the work out of it for them.

Other then that it is amazing you found it, and I wish you well.
