You know what you want. Some are sentimental and some are not. Some, whether it's sentiment or other, just want what they want for their own reasons and nothing else will do. I can relate on both accounts because I am both. And nostalgia is a wonderful thing. I get hit so strong sometimes it gets me high. Memories are what we live for.

I sure do love this truck, it may sound weird but
It’s a kind of love that it reminds me of my grandfather and
The good times we had when I was a very small child
That's awesome. Save your money and throw them a reminder on occasion. I like your odds a lot.

Could you sneak a bit of sugar into the gas tank? They might be more interested in selling if the motor is locked up.

I don’t like that idea lol

I’m just going to be patient and wait til the day comes because
I like waiting for the right time instead of rushing it and ruining
everything and never end up with it

Why bother with sugar if it has ethanol already

...very cool you were able to find the truck in the first place. As long as the current owners know the sentimental value the truck has for you, ...I hope and pray they do the right thing.
Keep us posted, would love to hear you get it

Re: Found my grandfathers 71 gmc

It’s hard on both sides, if a previous owners family came to me wanting to buy one of my trucks back, specifically my K20 or my 3100, I don’t know that I’d sell either of them honestly. Not only do I have a ton of time and money in both of them but I’ve got memories past and still to create with me and my family in them and it’s my turn to enjoy them. However if I ever got a chance to buy back my dads old 71 K10 I’d hope like hell the current owner would let it go. That said, I sure hope your able to buy it back. That would be a really cool thing to have both of his trucks.

I’m praying that I get that call someday, I gave them my phone number and with that I hope they call, it would mean so much just more than I can put into words. I promised my grandmother that I’d take her for a ride in it like the good ole times

That’s very understandable, just all I can do is wait and work on my other GMC for now, and like I’ve said previously. Just hope and pray things will eventually work out

I forgot to say

They told me a few months ago that they would
definitely let me know first when and if they decide to
sell the truck. I’m trying to be as patient as patient can be

I have my dad's 68 finally.
Kept track of it for years until the time was right.
Feels pretty cool riding around in it.

That’s great to hear you got it back

I would love for nothing more to sit in the drivers seat
of my grandfathers truck and stroll down the highway in it

Weird thing is I like sitting shotgun more than driving it.
Wasn't old enough to ever drive it.

The GMC I have today took over twenty years to acquire. Old guy just wouldn’t let go. I finally convinced the son that I would not “Hot Rod It “

Re: Found my grandfathers 71 gmc

All that I’m going to do to that particular GMC is, to fix what needs to be fixed and repaint it’s the original colors. I just wish that things would go ahead and hurry up and be mine already ha ha

But seriously, my heart would be filled if I could just get it back

I recall, riding in the old truck with my grandfather going to my great grandmothers house and going to get snacks as well

Patience my friend....don't rush them, that could cause hard feelings. Just become their friends and don't bring up the subject very often

Re: Found my grandfathers 71 gmc

How many decades have they had the truck ?

Many memories get built up on our trucks i took my dad places he wouldnt think of going in his 72

After a month i would not sell my 68 when i got it

Nice he still had the 59 your now building

Are you going stock build or build a more modern cruiser out of the 59 ?

I’m putting a LS and 4L80e into the 1959 gmc and making it like I have always wanted it to be

They’ve had it around 8 years I think

They’ve been very kind with sending photos of the truck and exchanging messages backs and fourth. I’m being patient, but I do wonder how much that truck is worth.

It’s in Gods hands and I am putting my trust fully into him

Sentimental value is not easy to value. Sometimes it’s not the money at all. I have lots of vehicles going to crap around me just because the owners won’t let go. My motto is if you’re not going to do something with it move it along to someone who will...
