Pulled the old motor Friday night. I didn't have the parking brake on so the truck rolled back a little and turned the transmission a bit. I'm pretty sure the only thing that stopped it from rolling further was the transmission dip stick. Oops...

Saturday I replace the transmission mount and use my police crown vic to push the truck up the driveway to turn the transmission back. Got it pretty straight. Jacked up the tranny so it was level. And lastly put the old motor on a second engine stand so I could use the hoist. The wife had other things for me to do so that was about it for today.

Today I got the motor in place and on the new motor mounts. Was getting late and have calculus homework so had to call it quits.

At this point, I need to figure out how to get the last half inch between the engine and tranny cleared and get the transmission all the way turned right. Probably about 3/4" off. Any tips would be appreciated.

Hello, isn`t there 2sets of holes in the frame and front crossmember for motor mount bracket locations, one set holes for 6cyl and other for v8 but thought they were farther spread than the inch or so you need, my first was a 68 I6 and had to move the brackets to put the 327 in but that was when I was 16yrs old. my 67 now already had a 350.

Good Luck, Wildcard

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

BugzC10 that's a great idea for the cup holder, I have a similar one in my 89 chevy pickup which is optional only really seen a few amount of trucks that have those, haven`t looked yet but I have heard you can purchase them in LMC truck. Cool

I got almost all of the rebuilt front a arms with all new cross shafts, balljoints and brake hoses installed on the truck today after work, Hope the upper a arm mounting stud I ordered comes in tomorrow, I have all the RH suspension put together and the upper a arm loosely bolted in just need to slide the new stud thru. also got the self adjuster in the front brakes freed up and adjusted. I am going to keep the drums all the way around just add a powerbrake booster will work fine for me.

Going to get the TJ springs in tomorrow and start making the shock relocate bracket.

will post pics soon.

Thanks...I jury rigged it the first time, but after I installed a new Vintage Air AC System it's not going back on as well. I have to be in the mood to re-engineer the attaching and support brackets.

Set the dwell on the dizzy. Changed all fuel rubber hose sections. Replace fuel sending unit. Cleaner the oil bath air cleaner up. Replaced the driver window regulator. Been a busy day.

Yeah, I was going to move it initiallybut decided to keep it there. After some deliberation on it, I think its best to more the mounts forward and move the trans cross member up as well. I guess I'll have to lengthen the drive shaft. Not sure how much that will cost though.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Getting ready for the Mariposa car show tomorrow. Up at 5:00am and the Boss and I are off to
meet another truck on the way at 6:35am.

First time since she's been painted that RAT's been hit with water. The dust build up under the car
cover wasn't coming off with a dust mop this time. So, wash and blow dry.

How come the windows are always so hard to wash?

It's funny taking the garage-fed RAT to a car show with a bunch of $100,000 door slammers.
Wonder if those guys drive theirs.

And, the lame classes they've set up call for, "Pickup Up To 1976".

That means, any pickup from 1815 thru 1976. Makes sense, huh? Not that I give a crap, with
all that high-end metal around.

But there *are* six classes for Corvettes.

Oh, well. I don't go there to complain. It'll be a fun day.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I finished getting all the rebuilt front suspension parts, Here is a shot of it with the front coils cut 1 1/2 coils, haven't gotten the rear drop springs in yet pulled it out of the garage to get these shots then put in back in and got the left rear spring out and the Jeep TJ spring put in, but other side the head on the spring ear bolt going thru the truck arm broke the head off. and I need to figure out a way to get the broked bolt out, spring and the lower mounting ear is still on the truck arm.

I think I`m goin to get my grinder with a cutoff wheel and cut the the bottom of the coils spring as low as I can and then heat the truck arm where the bolt goes thru and see if that will loosen it up.

Here is a single or couple shots of it with the front lowered and not the rear yet.

Headed out of town tomorrow morning to go to a pull and save wrecking yard in Spokane Wa, to find some parts I need, swaybar, powerbrake booster assembly, LH door and have them cut a top off another truck for me so when I chop the top 4inchs, LH door, look around for seat options, and what ever other goodies I can find,

Just got back from the Mariposa (CA) Car Show.

Great show because, beside the weather being 72 degrees and sunny, and a free BBQ lunch included in the $35 price of entry,
there are only about 250 cars...A really nice size that allows you to really check 'em all out.

Here are a few pics:

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

'Wife and I went to pull and save wrecking yard in Spokane Wa today, and found some goodies, they only had 2 of our trucks there a 68 chevy 2wd and a 71 gmc 4x4 quiet a bit gone of course but we left with a complete front swaybar w/ bushings and bracket off the 68, upper LH door hinge that is tight, complete unbutchered engine bay wire harness off the 68, extra light and wiper switchs, good condition back up light lenzs, complete cig lighter assembly, got the Complete E brake pedal type E brake assembly with the cable out the cable to the cross cable off the 71, complete power brake booster and proportioning valve w/ all the firewall brackets and rod from pedal to booster, just missing the master cylinder, rare cap cover that goes over the hole in firewall that the clutch pedal rod goes thru, ( my truck was originaly a 3 on the tree and now is a th400 so this hole is open now, got LH door window regulator, my truck has the regualator just someone stripped all the splines for the crank handle with Vice Grips slipping. along with a bunch of misc little parts and pieces. and cool part is It all only cost me $59, and was there just a couple hours. really happy about the brake booster and the front swaybar assembly, those to me was worth the $59.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

So far today I wiped some bugs & goo off the front of the Blazer from yesterday's 200+ mile ride . I drove over to the Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival in Lakeland Fl. I saw a small portion of a BIG show that takes up most of down town Lakeland. Too much walking for an old guy. I got to visit with a Cousin from the other side of the state showing a nice '66 Fairlane. He has serious health problems but he was enjoying his old car on a beautiful day. I had a good ride in the topless Blazer. Ran 75 / 80mph. both ways, right around 2000 RPM in overdrive. LOUD & WINDY!!! Earbuds in and blues cranked up. I'm a little sunburned/wind burned today.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

got the Rear Jeep TJ spring in today and front brakes bled out and new front shocks installed, took it for a drive and it drive great with a tight frontend now, rides nice, with cut front springs kinda don`t need the front swaybar for now. but still gonna put it on. Pissed my cranky neighbor after leaving small 50-60ft burnout leaving my driveway. probably pissed him off cause I woke him up since all he does is set on his ass on the couch and drink all day, I see it thru the big front window everytime I leave in the afternoons, Oh Well. Lol

won`t let me post pics tonight will do that tomorrow.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
