Saginaw setup

I am wondering if anyone has or has seen a shifter linkage setup like this. I know they are normally mounted on the tailshaft but due to where the shifter needs to sit they mounted it this way. I'm looking for any pics that will show me what this should look like once I remove the cover. And yes I'm aware that's the speedo cable and not the linkage. The linkage is behind the cover. Thanks in advance for any help or any pics...

Looks like a normal 3 or 4 speed shifter mounted with a different bracket.
Shifter is nothing special.
They’re all similar inside.
2 or 3 arms separated by springs rotating on a centre shaft.
Check YouTube for how to rebuild a hurst shifter.

I am having an issue with 1st and 2nd. With the engine running or not I have to play with the shifter and jam it to get it to go into 1st and 2nd. I thought it might be the synchro but I was told if it does it with the engine off that should not be the issue so I wanted to make sure that the linkage is not just binding up 1st. But I have never owned a stick shift before so I'm not really sure what I'm looking at. I have seen 4 speed setups before but never one thats that close to the side cover normally they are mounted on the tailshaft. I have tried looking on line to see what it should look like but I can not find another setup like this.

What trans is it?
Pic of shift arms would help.

Could be linkage adjustment needed, internal problem, or clutch.

It's a saginaw 4speed. I have to take the cover off to get pics of the shift linkages. Which I will be doing but I am just trying to get a pic of what it should look like when I take it off. If I had a pic then I can compare it and the problem may just jump out on me.

No need to take any covers off yet!
Pic of the shift rods on the side of the trans can sometimes reveal a problem.

This cover needs to come off in order to see the rods. The shifter is directly above this.

Maybe this picture will help show the placement better. It shows the tailshaft better showing that there are no rods coming from there like normal.

Let’s try once more.
Any shifting problems are 99% of the time never internal in the shifter assembly.
Shifting problems can be the shift rods and the brackets on the trans. They’re located towards the front past the shifter in your pics.
A pic of them will help.
Another possibility is shift forks inside trans are damaged. That requires side cover removal.
Take a pic of your shift linkage.

And what I'm trying to say is there are no **** rods visible in front of the shifter. The shifter comes straight down from inside the truck and is connected to the part that changes the gears on the side cover. There are no visible rods. Where the cover is that I am explaining that needs to come off is not the side cover of the trans it's a cover that is over the section the rods normally connect to. Sorry if I sound frustrated but I know there are normally rods that connect to the side cover. This setup does not have that.
