Re: new GM logo

I agree, dont like it. But out of every single registered user on this board I wonder how many are in the market for a brand new shiny GM truck. My guess is its miniscule and my guess is GM isn't marketing to the majority of the folks that are in to the classics.

I listened to an interview with one of the electric car manufactures and he said marketing is showing that the upcoming generations are less likely to care about outright owning a new car or truck. But they like the idea of "leasing" a new vehicle for X amount of money down and a monthly payment. Also the plans the manufacturers are working on are going to be all inclusive with no penalties for stopping the lease early, or rolling in to the next ride with possibly a little more cash down.

Owning a car or truck may just go away all together. And whether we like it or not the electric vehicles are here to stay. Gas vehicles will still be around, but eventually they will just end up being that Sunday driver classic car.

So what most in the hobby think don't matter as you are not going to buy a new g.m. in the first place. And haven't in decades.
G.m. spent a few decades asking what those in the car hobby wanted, only to build it and ,crickets.

I remember very very well, people telling g.m. build a mid sized 2 door rear drive car. J.MOSS and skunk works built a mid 90's Monte Carlo on a Camaro floor pan. People cried build it build it, in early 2000's we got it, Only it was 10x better than what we begged for. Put a 2004-2006 pontiac GTO beside a mid 90's Chevy Monte Carlo. The GTO IS a production built J.Moss skunk works car everyone pleaded g.m. to build. it got here, and crickets,
SSR
G8
454ss TRUCK
EARLY 2000S ss TRUCK.
CHEVY CAPRICE (SS) 4 door powerhouse.
That is JUST the old school type.
forget the colbolt SS, the HHR SS/ the HHR panel. and the list goes on.
It I was g.m. I would cover my ears when anyone from the old car hobby speaks. They talk a good game till the product is available, then they are nowhere to be found.
What we think, say don't matter, As we have as a group, burnt them over and over and over and over again.
Those that are walking into a dealership and signing on a line and driving a new g.m.. THEIR opinion counts.
As they are putting their money where their mouth is.
Whoa now, simmer down. This thread is supposed the charged with emotion and discontent. No reason to bring logic and pertinent examples into the discussion.

Only 2 new vehicles in my lifetime.

The first new car I bought was a 1965 Buick Skylark Grand Sport and the last new vehicle I bought was a 1973 GMC Suburban. I don't care what they do. That makes it easy for me.......

The new GM logo is lame. The old one was way better.

Re: new GM logo

Dont think a logo is going to make or break a deal. If I didnt like the logo on my car or truck I'd remove it . Not a big deal to me at all. My 02 Springer doesn't have one emblem or HD sticker on it.

Re: new GM logo

.

Once again GM turns to marketing to bring in more dollars.

I really believe they should purchase a premium German vehicle, learn what makes it drive the way it does then duplicate that into a new design of their own...or otherwise find a way to build a quality piece of engineering that gives something to its driver. Then sell that on its own merit.

All this selling of the idea of a concept of a great experience in a ( fake ) award winning vehicle is just nonsense.

Not a fan of the logo and I don't have a lot of faith in their newer vehicles. Lack of after sale support and customer service.

With the EPA rules I don't think they send us their best stuff. Not their fault.

But they sure do "feel" better when you sit in them. I love the way my 2017 Passat feels and drives. The interior materials are way above what GM would produce at a similarly priced car. The car looks good (for a new car) and feels good down the road. If GM would bring back better materials and get someone in that design office that will draw something besides a spaceship, I'd buy a new GM no doubt about it.

I'll admit to being done with new GM, have been for a long time. No deep hate or anything, just want to own other stuff before I go. I feel the same about the old stuff now, my brand loyalty died at least 10 years ago, probably more. Too much cool stuff out there to care about one too much.

But as far as the new logo goes, yeah, that was a exciting project led by a team of metro-sexuals that'll never have a damn thing in common with any of us.

It's not personal. Like most of you have mentioned, we're not the target market anymore.

They are going after and following the trends of today, And to shed some of their past. in the late 90's early 2000's Cadillac did it. and it worked.
Marketing to those that are in the market for your product and are willing to buy it makes more sense than, bowing to folks that blast the companies products that are 1000x better in every way from handling to quality control, panel fitment, and life span. Than the old vehicles we hold dear.
I love my old classic vehicles, but I don't look at them with rose colored glasses on either.
If g.m. ever decides to try what Ford is doing with the Bronco, and took the chevy colorado and made it look like a 1967 c-10, offered it with a LTv8 or even the 3.6 300+hp v6, and a reg cab.
I would buy it. heck it be easy to do, fix the wheel wells on the truck, and offer a 67 c-10 styled nose as a R/S(retro styled) trim. and keep todays styled truck for those that don't want a retro looking truck.
A few years ago, a Chevy or GMC dealer painted the new trucks with a square body two tone paint or decals, it looked good, GM should have jumped on it and added a r/s retro square body nose to the trucks. As an option. to complete the look. WHILE keeping the styling of the new truck also. So folks that hate the new truck look, that love the square body would walk into the dealership. same with the chevy colorado I listed above.
GM'S mistake is when they tried the retro look, they did not build the same vehicle with todays styling beside it. This way you move enough units of the platform while catering to two very different buyers.
If I was the head of Pontiac when they got the news that they are getting the holden 2 door, The emblems on it would have been TEMPEST GT, and not GTO. As Pontiac was not going to win anyone over unless they built a 1967 GTO or 1970 Judge clone.
the G8 should have had emblems of Executive GT

You do understand the Dodge Charger and Challenger ARE M/B plateforms from the 90's ealry 2000's right.
They seem to do just fine with them.
German brand vehicles are over rated. How good you think a Chevy malibu would be if the base price STARTED at 48k and went up from there.
The Chevy SS was 50k, and if you put a BMW or M/B badge on the same car it be 80-150k.
Some forget this part.
There is a reason german cars value drop like a rock. The problems they have and the cost of upkeep.
Anyone that has owned a v.w./audi/mb/etc knows this all to well.

What could Chevy use for materials in say the vette, if they were to price it at what the Italian cars cost? They already smoke them in performance, you have to know your market, very few would by a z06 zr-1 vette that was 250k and up. or a base vette at 155k and goes up from there.
Vehicle marketing is a headache as you never make anyone happy, and people without even looking at or driving the vehicle bad mouth them.
If I was king at g.m. the 7th gen camaro would have looked like a 1971 r/s SS with the later wrap around rear glass. fixing the crying about being able to see out the back/blind spots, and gave the car new life.

@ChevyRacefan, I hope you realized that I was making a tongue in cheek compliment to you about your post. Each of your posts in this thread have been well thought out and insightful.

I hope the Covid isn't hitting you too badly. In my job we are up to our ears in it every day and I see folks in the whole spectrum from minor illness all the way to death. It's a damn mess and a bit scary since it's unpredictable as to who will do well and who will not. Fortunately the hospital and doctors seem to be figuring out some treatment protocols for the thing to help hedge the odds in favor of better outcomes for those poor folks who get hit hard with it.

Take care

Oh, no worries I got the sarcasm .

Ya the virus is odd, some get mild cold like, and others it is like going 9 rounds with Tyson.
Last few weeks I feel just like I did the next day after try'n to stay on a bucking horse. Been that sore for 3 weeks now. The muscle and bone ache is nuts. Can't smell my farts, so that is a plus. . Everything taste like crap. And a mild but almost non stop headache. Shortness of breath.
.
I will be fine,(fingers crossed) just bored .
