Ok dang. Never done that. Dont you just put it in and trun over engine and look at mark it left on steem. Then readjust and try again?

pretty much. just take a look from the side to check contact/rocker arm angle and get your initial setting. DON'T LET THE MOTOR HAVE POWER AND START THO! do it by hand or with a starter switch so you can bump it over. You want to coat the top of the valve stem with a sharpie or something to mark where it was riding. Needs to be as close as you can get to the middle.

Dang it. Was hopeing to not have to do this. Was thinking i could just take off how much they milled off the head and subtract it from push rod length and order that set. But i guess that is a nother handy too to have.

maybe you could borrow one somewhere? another factor is your head gasket thickness...it combined with a .010 to .020 mill or so of the heads would effect the valve train geometry.

Are you sure your heads need resurfacing? Or are you doing this to pick up some compression?

I am going to have them checked. If they dont need it i wont do it. So if i get .010 takn off and get a thicker gasket i should be close to origanl right?

I hope they need nothing. They are going to check everything. It will only cost 25 a head to everything checked. They pressure test them and vaccum test them and so on. Money well spent in my book i think.

What do you think about the new LSx section on here? I think it is long overdue and welcom.

I am thinking about installing my new fuel system. I not sure where to install my pump. I am thinking of putting it where my filter is. Like in very detailed picture below. Does any one see any problems with this. Also my factory pump has 3 hoses on it. In, out, and something else. Any one know what the 3rd is for?

The pump will be about 8 inches from tank. Should i get after pump filter or just leave it as is? That is about as close at it can get. Does it matter how close the reg is to carb or pump?

Well didnt get anything done or ordered this week. Am on vacation and it is my girls 3rd birthday. Spent all my parts money on fun stuff. Will send back my ARP intake bolts that are too long and order my micro filter with that money and then put fuel system on. Then after is save up some more of that eluseve green paper they call money i will get headers and find stock manifolds for back ups.

So was looking at old 350 sitting in engine bay and got a wild idea....Mount new carb on it. Its a alu. edelbrock intake that is on it now. Has 2 sets of holes and has a pos quadjet sitting on it. Does any one know if new square bore will work with it. A nother resone is to make sure all my throttle stuff will work on new engine. I will only have day or two to put new engine in and cant afford any set backs like brackets not lineing up right. Well should i or should i not. Cant decide. Need yalls help.

You need a square bore to spread bore adapter to go under the carb like a carb spacer. It will handle the spread VS square bore difference, and provide for all the bolt holes to line up.

As far as linkage...an adjustable one might be a good idea. Also, if you start your build Friday...you could still order parts late Fri. nite... and recieve them on Saturday.

From what i have read it looks like every intake manifold i can find that edelbrock has on summit for a spread bore also works with square bore. They are drilled and tapped with both holes. You still have to get a spacer/addapter plate?

Talked to summit and the say i should get a adapter plate. It is flat and seals hole carb base. I got new question now.. to remove my old fuel pump all i need is a cover plate and to remove the push rod thing right? What is the best way to cut stailess braded fuel hose? I am looking at massive plyers type cutters. Look like bolt cutters but for hose will that be good?

Yes, just need the cover and remove the rod for the fuel pump if you are running external.

Can't help you with the stainless...haven't gone there...yet.

ok thanks. Hope new carb will make it run better and maybe get better milage. Exhaust burns eyes is so rich and i know only one thing about quads and that they dont belong with me. I cant work on them dont have tools or know how.

the old quadrajets are good carbs...if you're familiar with them. I've still got one set back in my parts bin.

Holley's are just easier for lots of folks...including me.

Well just put in an order for my fine fuel filter, carb sealing plate, and two more fuel line fittings and fuel pump block off plate. Now maybe next week i can install the hole fuel system and make sure i dont need any other throttle brackets or cables of any kind.

Does any one have any idea of a different style air filter then the round kind that would look good on new engine?

I like the round ones but want something that looks newer to match engine kinda. Prob will go with the round one still. I like the scoop/blower looking ones but that would look cheap i think on mine.

to be honest...the more you can do to assure your motor is breathing "cool" air rather then the hotter under the hood air the better it will run. But....I really don't like those Spectre 14" air cleaners with two cold air lines since they exit on both sides of the carb...rather then older OEM types...that had maybe a 90* angle... heading to each front corner.

This is the only one that gets air from close to the front. Not sure of it actually being any good. also looks funny.

one of the old original dual snorkel air cleaners off a 60's-70's car would be cool. Heck, even my '84 HO Z28 had a dual snorkel. Then you can get some tubing and plumb it all the way to the front wherever you want.
